The front office

As a long time Warriors fan one of the things you get depressingly used to is the Warriors being a badly mismanaged club. I think over the lifetime of the club there’s been maybe 5-6 years total where they seemed to be generally well run, and they mostly coincided with on field success.
I think most of us held out little hope that the current owner and execs were any better - Robison seemed like an egotistical interfering blowhard at first, and Cameron George generally seemed full of hot air. So I’ve got to say I’ve been pleasantly surprised with how well this years is going and that they probably deserve some credit too. Robinson seems to be staying out of the spotlight and making sure the club has the funds to do what it needs to, and the club has hardly put a step wrong with the direction it’s taken this year- taking games around NZ, making sure Mt Smart is packed out every week with good ticketing offers, not overdoing the one-off jerseys, and investing heavily in pathways and lower grades. Hopefully this isn’t a false dawn like the Watson & Watson period, but geez it’s encouraging.

I will say, that a great coach can cure all sins of the front office. Ivan did exactly that with a jumped up marketer as CEO who got exposed as a sheister once he marched Ivan on. And Webster is making everyone look good right now.

I won't say that Robinson isn't doing a bad job,or George because I don't know. And they hired Webster. But I find it hard to believe they've made complete transformations from the horrible job they did last year when we finished 15th, paid crims to not play for us and beat their chests whilst claiming to be alpha males. Also worth remembering Cameron George marched on SJ with a 'don't let the door hit you on the way out' where a proper professional like Webster knows how to treat people

Both valid points

But i reckon things were so bad last season when they were away from home, SJ wasnt happy and generally the season was a write off once Brown p1ssed off that Robinson probably intentionally made headlines to hide the spotlight from how bad of a mental state the team was in.

But usually winning fixes everything but these points shouldnt be dismissed

I think the front office is doing a great job and winning is helping. The recruitment for the only time in our history has been outstanding. We have a lot of depth and some solid players, great coach, good crowds

- Barnett, Walker, Ford, Niukore, Metcalf, CNK, TMM

What you get week in and week out from CNK is what all the backline players should be aspiring to. He hits a certain standard each week whereas the rocks and diamonds players like Pompey and Montoya are inconsistent which is what has held back the Warriors in the past. Each game has certain "moments" which turn 2 points into 0 points. We are seeing what consistency across the park can bring in terms of results. Once Roger is back that consistency arrow should only continue to point upwards.

The Eric Watson, Glen Owen 'greatest sporting organization in the southern hemisphere' (or whatever the quote was) episodes would be bangers too...

Didn’t want to start a new topic, just been reading that Manly and Auckland Rugby League have set up a pathways agreement. For some reason ARL offering this to Sydney clubs but no interest in setting anything up with the Warriors

Didn’t want to start a new thread up so will lob this in here

Canterbury Rugby League have just signed a partnership deal with the Bulldogs so good juniors in the Canterbury system will end up heading over to play Ball, Flegg etc with the Dogs
