The game plan - executed perfectly

There was only one game plan from the coach tonight -
One out stuff and dont commit any errors. No fancy plays. Keep it nice and basic.
I believe we played the game plan to the letter and Im proud of the boys.
I believe our first legitimate drop ball was from Mateo near full time.
Our competion rates were superb. Our defence was a lot better than the last two weeks.
Yes we let in a couple of tries near the line but we stopped a few repeat sets too.

Next week, lets build on it and add more attack and slowly get better.

We cant expect that we will go from playing like under 7s against Souths and Warriors to Entertainers.

All in all Im very happy with the way we played and would have been just as happy with it if the tigers had kicked the goal to win... Ok not that happy but would have been fairly optimistic....

I honestly believe if we had played like that against the Rabbits then we would have beaten them.

We are on the right track. :D

I seriously doubt we would have beaten the Rabbits on tonights performance. We were lucky to beat the Tigers. If you're happy on tonights performance you are very easily pleased. I'm just happy to get the win.

TBH, the only reason Parra won is because the Tigers were worse.

neither team seemed like they wanted to win far too much dropped ball by both teams but hey Parra still won so thats something

I thought Parra looked terrible in attack. 2 of their tries came from errors on the Tigers behalf. You guys made 1 line break.

As for defence, it wasn't too bad, but the Tigers made a sh*tload of metres with every set of 6. They made 6 linebreaks in total. Luckily the Eels seemed to stop them before the line that counts... but i think the Tigers assisted with that in being absolutely sh*t and blowing all the hard work they done.

Those penalties Mateo was milking was a turning point. The Tigers were hard done by here. But even after losing a player, their defence and attack didn't look hurt at all. They were still very lethal, but just couldn't get over that line. Tigers had so many chances that they blew, and the Eels took every chance they had pretty much, and converted them into points.

Thats what worries me, I think the win will shield a lot of mediocrity there.

We were able to compete last night because our completion rate was 35/43 or 81%. You can't ask for better than that. Something to build on.

the game plan was perfect considering we had nothing in attack, happy for the win but still shaking my head at the over all performance.

I thought our performance was very poor. It's great that we got the two points but that's about it. That game was there for the taking at 20 to 12 and we threw it away against a poor side, at home. Very worrying. We were given to gift tries and the tigers bombed countless golden opportunities. We still continued to struggle when given good field position. Our forwards lack fire power and our defence was below standard, again. Im not convinced with Burt at fullback and he was one of our best. Did Finch play last night?
Positives: Twp points, Cayless was excellent and Tim Smith is on the way up (I hope). Did Finch play last night?

I don't mean to sound pessimistic but watching both sides i would think neither will make the eight. Did Finch play last night?

If you thought that Luke Burt wasnt one of our best last night then you and I were obviously watching different games.

Yes he did :p

Look Finchy is a quality player who is still finding his feet in a team with a completely different structure and players. I saw some great things from him at the Rooters whilst playing 5/8.

Hages will stick by him, hoping that he will find his feet. I personally dont have much credence with what Gus stated regarding Finchy not being a 5/8. He has rooter interests on this one.

I trust Hages, who is a former international and 5/8 can spot a 5/8.

As soon as it all works out and both Tim and Finchy find out where they are in the team overall, everyone here will be saying what a great combo they are. No use putting Finch in PL at the moment as thats not going to assist his combo with Smith to develop.

BUT in saying all that Green must be getting very close.

Thats the point eela, it was about doing the basic things properly, a task we did well.

The attack will come.

My only problem with the whole thing is that we should be giving Tahu a little bit more room. Hell he may even find that he has more room to move and the ball in his hands more at the Tahs and that is worrying

happy that we got the win

but i think our main concern is defence around the ruck.. a few tries and lots of linebreaks were conceded through there.. lucky they didnt capitalise on them though.. could have been a lot different

The fact is that the Tigers were by far the better team last night in all of the basics. Their forwards were dominant, they carved us up from dummy-half and we offered absolutely nothing in attack.

It's probably the luckiest win I've ever seen.

A for effort by Parra but Z for execution.

The Tigers lost because they did everything right EXCEPT finish off their chances.

There is no point glossing over how bad we were.

Mate the competition is so very close this year. Every NRL team in the comp can win it.
Yes, the tigers made some passing errors but how many of those errors were because of Parras ability to rush them ? Credit where its due. Sometimes a team who commits errors has those errors caused by the opposition.
Otherwise it would be a game of touch.

I agree it wasnt pretty. I would love to see more razzle dazzle. But the tigers are a quality side. Every team is a quaility side. The very fact that we competed with a quality side tells me that we are a quality side and played quality football. The win was an added bonus.

I thought we we're pretty ordinary and we're lucky to win, but i'm just happy to get the win and hopefully we can build on it for next week.

The Tigers looked the more dangerous but the implication that they were the better side is false. Sure we scored of an error and an intercept but they scored as a result of two very poor decisions. I wish we could still go upstairs to get a reversed decision.
