The Grand Final Thread

Messages

Just thought I'd put a thread dealing grand finals from all facets of the game as it time once again.

3 Brisbane 2nd Division Grand Finals were decided on Saturday at Davies Park. The results were:

Southside 2: Carina 34 d Sunnybank 12
Southside 3: Souths 20 d Slacks Creek 16
Southside 4: Browns Plains 46 d North Stradbroke Island 0

In all grades, the beaten teams were the minor premiers of that competition!!!

In the South Burnett gf, Murgan crushed Kingaroy by a scoreline I can't remember.

Avondale claimed their 3rd consecutive Northern Districts premiership with a 34-30 victory over South Kolan at South Kolan.

Winton and Ilfracombe played in the Central West decider last weekend and hopefully, I'll have a result for that on Friday.

That's it so far. Will continually update this thread during the coming weeks as I know more results.

From Sunshine Coast Daily website (http://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au/data/current_news.html):

44-0 Pirates crushed by try scoring assault

Nambour claims first Red Rooster Cup grand final victory in 15 years

THREE chants said it all about Nambour's first Red Rooster Cup victory in 15 years yesterday.
Amid frenzied celebrations in the middle of the Nambour Showgrounds, the Crushers players and supporters let loose with ''Nambour, Nambour'', followed by ''44-0, 44-0'' and finally ''Wardy, Wardy'', in honour of their 38-year-old halfback James Ward who left the game in the best possible way after 21 consecutive seasons in Sunshine Coast-Gympie first grade.
No-one in the Crushers camp could dare to have believed they would beat the Pirates by the widest margin that anyone can remember in a Sunshine Coast-Gympie grand final.
Noosa humbled Nambour just two weeks earlier in the major semi-final, but was a beaten side by halftime yesterday when the Crushers led 26-0.
While their eight-try haul was impressive, it was Nambour's defence, clearly the best of any side all season, which was the main reason why they broke their premiership drought in such stunning style.
''Some people were calling us soft in the underbelly,'' said Nambour coach Des Allen.
''But we knew we had a good football side and they proved it today.
''They have been the best side all year as far as I'm concerned.
''I've never been so rapt about a game in all my life.'' Allen was so rapt he danced a solo jig in the centre of the halfway line during the post-match celebrations as a Johnny Cash tune was played on the ground speakers.
The coach who took over two years ago and said he wanted immediate success for his club said he would not return for another season.
His job has already been advertised with the new man facing a hard job to produce anything to match yesterday.
Noosa also lost the reserve grade grand final to Caloundra, while Bribie Island won the under-19 premiership.

Matty - are the south Burnett premiers now simply called 'Murgon', reverting back from Murgon-Goomeri ???

Now, are these the only finals we're still awaiting results for ?

Toowoomba -

Central Highlands -

Central Burnett - (are Eidsvold still the only team?)

Fraser Coast / Maryborough - (has it folded totally or do the Maryborough sides in the Bundy comp now play off for this premiership?) Therefore, has Group 1 been axed?

Cape York -

Wide Bay Chairmans Challenge -

The South Burnett Times just had the name of the club as Murgon so that's what I went by. You could be right though..

As I said in a previous post, the TRL grand final will be played this weekend.

Emerald Tigers defeated Emerald Cowboys 33-20 in the grand final of the Central Highlands league on Saturday night.

Monto (a former Central Burnett team) competed in the South Burnett Reserve Grade this season.

Group 1 ended in 2001. Bundaberg teams just competed in their own comp and the Maryborough (except for Hervey Bay who joined the Sunshine Coast comp) clubs formed the Wide Bay Chairmans Challenge last year with the South Burnett clubs and Eidsvold. Wide Bay Chairmans Challenge only lasted one season with Wallaroos joining Bundaberg and the other two Maryborough clubs (Rovers & Brothers United) disappearing (forever or temporarily I'm not sure).

No idea with Cape York.
