Either buy into Salford and build the club up within the city of Salford or invest in a club like the nomadic Swinton lions and move them over into Manchester but don’t rebrand Salford into a Manchester team whilst remaining in the city of Salford.

I think that they'd be buying into all the existing infrastructure of pathways, administration ect.
They need to be rebranded to Manchester and play in Manchester, hopefully pulling along the existing fan base.

I think that’s very unlikely to happen …. It would be like the Sharks or Manly getting sold and then rebranded say to the Sydney Rhinos and playing their games out of Allianz …. I don’t see that being a successful move in keeping the current fan base on board …

Where in 'Manchester'?
Yeah you got me, I wasn't really over the geography of Manchester and Salford in as in Manchester as anywhere I guess.

The point is, finding a way that all of Manchester feels part and it might be as simple as a name change and some marketing. I think it makes the comp look better soon as your saying Manchester as opposed to Salford.

It worked for the once Auckland Warriors, selling out Christchurch now.

You need all of Manchester to at least have the opportunity to identify with the team.

Salford crowds given all the negativity aren’t awful

Hudds are just a waste of space and smash will be

4800? It's f**king pitiful especially compared to the population base
Super league isn’t the NRL.

As much as I’d like it to be it just isn’t and as much as it pains me to say this but the game is a niche sport even in the north no matter the population base.

I do really wonder is a combined England/Aus comp could work….

For the UK teams, the prestige of regularly hosting NRL teams would be enormous for local interest.

For Aus, having UK teams i the same comp make those games relevant to Aussie fans so i think the games on tv would get a great audience (sitting in the 300k mark for paytv). So it would just be more content to sell.

the obvious problems are logistics of travel and timezones. These might honestly be too much and split the comp in half (it would be sh*t if a third of your clubs away games are played after midnight…

Sounds very altruistic but in reality can you see the Australian clubs being willing to give up $160mill a year of their tv revenue to English clubs? For that matter even adding the UK $45mill a year tv rights to the pot the NRL doesn't have $200mill a year to give to English clubs if it wanted to.
I consider this in the same way NRL might fund NZRL or other nation RL's

Maybe the NRL should not only buy ESL but English RU as well and remerge the code under RL rules
They already sold a big chunk to private equity

Plus it’s total value is like 300 to 500 million dollars(just the club game)

And the 10 remaining clubs, 7 are technically insolvent with total losses of 30 to 40 million pounds pa

Edit it was 27 percent for around 200 to 275 million pounds

So the whole comp is valued at around 1 billion pounds sterling

The English club game is a basketcase
