which is why two of the clubs will have to be closely vetted to make sure they have the funds available compete without a grant for ‘27

context is everything. The nrl didn’t ask the other 17 clubs to take a grant reduction to allow for perth and png to enter. That’s basically what would have to happen in SL as they just don’t have the funds to fund two new teams. It’s now up to prospective clubs to decide if they can viably enter SL in 2027 without the 1.2mill grant. no one’s forcing them to apply.

If money becomes available focus on a French league with a team in Spain and Italy and one in London and one in Manchester and Leeds
