Both comps under the same umbrella will work so much better. If you can get both comps played at the same time for a shortened 20 rounds, you can have a bigger international window too and that's why the NRL want England strong..
I suppose it's what you want those internationals to look like. England's not going to be touring in the middle of the comp.

At the moment with 17 team comp, with each club playing 24 games and 3 byes over 27 rounds, for 204 total.

With a 20 team comp, that would be 240 games total. Instead, give each club 2 more byes = 220 games per season - 16 more than now. But each club only play 22 games each season. So you reduce play work load.

With 5 byes, you can give most teams byes during 3 weeks of Origin e.g. 1 game each on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday, then State of Origin on the Sunday.

You can then also give them byes during 2-3 more rounds. In those rounds you can play the top 4 Pacific Cup games like Union's 6 Nations. Depending on who qualifies, just an example:

Week 1: AUS vs TON, NZ vs SAM
Week 2: AUS vs SAM, NZ vs TON
Week 3: AUS vs NZ, SAM vs TON

With two or three NRL games on during those rounds as well. Depending on how you schedule it, you might have some spare byes to give teams post or in between origin/internationals. But you're not shutting down the comp for standalone weekends.

So basically 90% of players would play 2 fewer games per season when all combined. 8% would play as much as what they're playing now. 2% might play 1 extra game, but only if they play all Origins and all Internationals, which is rare.

And because you have 5 byes - you can arrange it so clubs are only impacted directly by Origin/Pacific Cup once or twice.

The Grand Final then remains where it should be - on the October long weekend.

And after that in October you then play your World Cups, Ashes tournaments and if we're serious, rebuild the 3 game series between Australia vs New Zealand as an every four years tournament. Everything wraps up by the first or second week of November at the latest.

In essence I think you're right.

It's nice to say sibling but what we really want as a sport is to operating as a single entity where all RL becomes our interests. All RL GLOBALLY and it's growth is the NRL'S interest.
Not us and them.

The advantage to Rugby league as a sport would be unbelievable. Seasons, internationals, Origin.. all operating from the same page.
Is there any sport run globally by one body?

NBA are looking to takeover European basketball and raid the EuroLeague for their own NBA Europe. The MLB (World Baseball Classic) and NHL (World Cup of Hockey) run the world cup's for their respective sports.

I can only see this trend continuing for sports with few major leagues but a clear front runner, such as the NRL and RL.

I guess with only two pro comps in the world it is Somwhat unique but still, there’s no precedent for one body running domestic comps globally I don’t think?

people, have been mentioning the wifm for nrl, can only think they can see theyre maxing out in australia and looking for new revenue avenues beyond those shores.
as long as it means more money flowing into English rugby league then I dont have a problem with NRL profiteering off it.
Hopefully it will mean better international calendars and WCC.
However if they are even thinking about a move back to winter they can get stuffed lol

The NRL are encouraging the French system to switch to summer, what makes you think they would do that whilst revert Super League to winter?

I don't have a problem with the NRL running the game internationally. They're on the way to conquer the Pacific, and won't be any worse than the slurry of shite administrators since Richard Lewis. The synergies of having a unified international body would be a boon for the international game. Look at the constant battles RU are having regarding a global calendar.

That won't be at all on the agenda, they're trying to expand internationals.

The French RL President gets it !

“What they have done in the game, and obviously with the NRL, when these people tell you what they want to do in the future you have to be pumped, and I am pumped.”

Not much new from Abdo …. Still no detail or imminent “offer” on the horizon

This looks like wheel spinning … hope the main reason for the UK visit is to have further discussions with the DAZN dude about the NRL deal !

You're kidding right?
Obviously he simply doesn't want negotiations played out in a public circus.
He doesn't even want Media to know the ball park figures!
How do you expect a deal to be done when all the Tom dick and Harries over the world start scrutinizing every dollar from the start, that's doomed to fail.
Imagine Kenty, Johns , Gus ... Then their Northern equivalent being given something to chew on..
f**k that!
They're working on it, we just won't get details until it's done.

I want to see what they can do Pvl usually overachieves with stuff like this

and I’m a huge sceptic on this topic

I’m not expecting him to play out the negotiations or announce figures in public …. That is a real example of a straw man there …

let’s look at some of the things he actually said…

Question - did you move any closer after the meeting today to agree an Independent Commission?

Abdo - we are still exploring right and this trip has been about listening and learning ( what have they been doing these past months I wonder ??) This is a complex landscape .. ( really .. who would have thought ?)

In terms of the actual mechanics of the deal there are still a few things to work through and that is what we are going to work through in the coming weeks

Carney - there has been no formal offer .. is that correct?

Abdo - it’s not about an offer .., its about a partnership ( i wonder if the clubs and owners agree ? )

Carney - we have to have an agreement right and we have to have a number ?

Abdo - how it all fits together … we are still working through all that

Carney - when will we have an offer ?

Abdo - we are looking at this very carefully… but if this is to happen it needs to happen in weeks not years ..

Liie I actually said - nothing new and no imminent offer on the horizon it seems … if you take him at his word …he has still got a lot of things to work through

Then what are you saying?
So you don't expect us to know the figures.
He's been there what? A day?

What exactly then are you expecting?
Be clear. I don't want to construct a state man.. because that's all I can do if you give me no substance.

Personally I think you've decided to be sceptical of this for whatever reason, don't seem to be willing to adjust and your sceptical arguments are made of straw..

Sounds like they aren’t putting money in just sharing in any increased revenue via tv or other sources which is good for us

we were never getting that money back

I agree - i think it’s starting to get walked back …. Probably end up being some smaller “commercial arrangement “ between the 2 leagues rather than a merger or significant investment
