I’ve never been told why, but all the expansion teams were so dogshit up until the Titans.
The Warriors had a decent team in 1995. Would have made the finals if not for a substitution stuff up that cost points.

Had some big names, some decent names, and some names for the future but didn't quite get on top of the grind of the NRL.

The conditions the game was played in are important Also the 98 match was billed as the superbowl. Two defending premiers. And the broncos destroyed them.
What about the next time we played you in Newcastle when you were the defending premiers? 44-0

I've gone through 8 pages of dribble and not one mention of the great Eels team of 2012????

Plus coached by the genius Steve Kearney, he had the lads playing a style of football that hasn't been seen before or probably not since. A halves pairing of Sandow and Roberts automatically makes them the greatest team of all time.

I found this mid 2013 line up in a loss to Manly to be particularly impressive...

1. Jake Mullaney
2. Ken Sio
3. Ryan Morgan
4. Jacob Loko
5. Brayden Wiliame
6. Joseph Paulo
7. Chris Sandow
8. Tim Mannah
9. Matthew Keating
10. Mitchell Allgood
11. Reni Maitua
12. Daniel Harrison
13. Darcy Lussick

14. Ben Roberts
15. Peni Terepo
16. Fui Fui Moi Moi
17. Pat O'Hanlon

And coached by Ricky Stuart.

Did you have the pleasure of seeing that side play live, hiney?

They'd give the Knights team that won 1 game all year a couple of years back a run for their money.

Reading that team list is making my eyes bleed and bringing back a lot of suppressed memories. Luckily for me I live in Brisbane and only had to set through the game on the telly until I blacked out from alcohol poisoning. Gee as an Eels fan I've had to sit through some pretty aids Eels teams. The 95 Eels team was as bad as it gets also. At least those poor merkins had a dig each week.

A Mamo/Feeney/Hodkinson/Randall spine would dominate them.

I came to Townsville in 1999 and it was a 'joy' watching some of those esteemed Cowboys teams run around Dairy Farmers.

I remember I went to watch them play the Knights around 2002ish and I rocked up about 35 minutes late, wondering if I'd missed much, only to look up at the scoreboard and see something like...
Cowboys 0 Knights 44 LMFAO.

Limiting this to one year only (so people can't say Easts 1935-36-37, or St George 11 in a row, or Parra 1981-82-83), what do you think is the greatest club team of all time?

To me, as a Roosters fan, it would be hard to beat the legendary Easts team of 1935, with Dave Brown and co setting lots of records, or our fantastic team of 1975. But what about Manly 1996, with their unbelievable defence? or the star studded Canberra of 1994? The North Sydney team of 1922?
From the years I've watched the game (which included the very tail end of the St George era) Parramatta 1982 has my vote. The 1981 side were more than matched for 70 minutes by Newtown before the backline finally found space and the 83 side were nowhere near Manly for most of the year. Honourable mentions to Easts '75, Broncos '92, Raiders '94 and Storm '17. The 2004 Dogs would get a mention but they still had a cheated up side, albeit playing for reduced money. By the way in threads like this you shouldn't be allowed to vote for teams from the club you support (or I might have given a HM to the 91 Panthers).

I still remember thinking the Knights were absolute morals that day. As you say put the teams side by side and the Knights team shits all over it.
The same could be said of the 2003 match up with hindsight. However, the Roosters were unbackable.

It's one of the great shames of the history of the sport that Canberra never met Brisbane in a Grand Final during the 89-94 period.

The Broncos didn't make the finals until 1990, and missed out again in '91. Even in 1990, they were no match for either of the GF teams, being well beaten in the finals by both. It just wasn't their turn yet. '94 might have been the year but the Bears got them in the finals.

Yup, by 92 the Raiders team were broken apart due to salary cap issues. Penrith had fallen away due to Ben Alexanders death as well, all the great teams of the 80s were rebuilding or a spent force. Was a very weak comp and easy year for the Broncos.

Can’t see that record being broken anytime soon. What made it more painful is we went on to win the second half

Eastern Suburbs 1974, I actually think this team was better than the white hot 1975 side. Easts in 1974 scored 513 points for and only had 198 scored against them, they were never outside the top 3 all season and from round 6 they held the number 1 spot for the rest of the premiership rounds.

Should we limit this to teams you actually saw play?
Not at all. You can read, research and watch old footage. You can listen to the views of previous generations. You can make their living memory your living memory if you just take the time.
Plus there are stats and records available. There's no practical reason for ignoring history.
St George 1959 are the last undefeated team
Norm Provan said the the undefeated 1959 side was special, but he also said the 1956 side was better. The '56 side won the Grand Final with only 12 men after centre Merv Lees had to leave the field with a broken collarbone. Second rower Billy Wilson took over the centre position but he was limping with stretched ligaments. St George played most of the match one man short but were still able to defeat Balmain 18-12.

You also mentioned 1963 when St George won all three grades. That's hard to beat and shows what a great Club side it must have been that year.
