The hybrid plan to fill the coffers

Agreed... and watch the NRL allow themselves to get arse-raped when it comes to getting their share of the profits if it goes ahaead.

Agree. NRL is the dominant Rugby code in this country and should only even consider such a stupid idea for at least 65-70% of the profits. The idiots in charge of the NRL would probably accept 35 - 40%.

Whilst I don't like John O'Neil he is a far better than Gallop. Maybe we should bring him to the NRL?

WOW thats well thought out, you obviousely have interest and knowledge in both sports.

Cheers.

BUT what do you think of Quade Cooper instea of K.Beale, Cooper has been named as the wallabies number 10 and I havent researched this to backup my statement, but I think he went to the same school as Benji Marshall, some school in queensland not sure weather it was league/union/touch that they played.

which brings me to another point, Benji Marshall played touch at early in his career and so did Quade Cooper, so they have naturally superior sidesteps compared to most other rugby players.Who's step do you think is better?

Cooper is a great player, and could do a great job in a team like this. According to wiki, born in Tokoroa in the Waikato like former NZ Kiwis Henry and Robbie Paul, went to a QLD Private School though, unlike Benji. Cooper is like Benji Marshall in a lot of aspects of his game, their light running and stepping would be on par with each other.

I noticed that new Wallabies outside centre Rob Horne is a former St George RL junior, and that former Penrith winger Luke Rooney will be at the Melbourne Rebels next year. You could add Horne and Rooney to the Union team, and if Gasnier comes back to League, he'd be the obvious centre candidate.

I'm guessing that one of the big impediments to this game going ahead is that neither code would want their national team to lose, because they'd fear losing face, losing prestige in the sporting community, and receiving negative PR.

One way around this is to not necessarily field the national teams, but alternative representative teams. So instead of the Kangaroos/Wallabies, you could field the Prime Minister's XIII (who play against PNG every year) or NRL All Stars vs the Australian Barbarians RU (who placed last night vs England RU). Similarly if a hybrid game were staged in NZ, instead of the Kiwis/All Blacks, the All Golds could play the Junior All Blacks (who played in the Pacific Nations Cup). In England, the Northern Union team (RL) could play England Saxons (RU).

They talk about this constantly, but will it ever happen?

I can only think of two scenarios under which a hybrid game would happen.

Firstly, God forbid, a huge natural disaster, like an earthquake or tsunami, and all sports join together to raise funds.

Secondly, Murdoch, or another sports entrepreneur, buys some players (perhaps temporarily) to play, and promote, a hybrid alternative code. I personally think that something like this will eventually happen - the potential upside is huge of a genuinely international hybrid rugby code.

If Tony Abbott's liberal party gets elected at the next futile election (God save us all). Maybe the game could be played on one of his ears.
