You asked about costs. Of course it will generate “some” revenue but unles there’s a massive uptake of tickets and sell out of boxes then It’s hardly likely to cover the massive costs. Imagine how much that great stadium must be costing to hire! Just work out how much it will cost to fly and accomodate 4 clubs plus nrl officials and hangers on. Probably close to 200 people. I’m pretty sure they won’t be flying economy lol
Well the NRL have got Fiji Airways to sponsor the event so at a guess the flights are covered in that sponsorship maybe. 15k tickets sold already with the NRL running their own travel packages will be generating a bit of revenue.

Then you see V’landys wining and dining at the white house (networking). And of course the big driver and best chance for commercial success of this venture is to take a slice of the burgeoning US sports betting market (hence Las Vegas).
V’landys has the contacts for that and maybe he can make it happen.

Either way I predict it will initially be cost neutral at least, and has the potential for great profit in the future.

You can't blame the NRL for trying because they are putting in a lot of effort and it is planned for atleast 5 years, where previous big rugby league ideas only last 1 at the most.

If it doesn't work, so be it. But if it does, then the NRL and the clubs will see a significant profile and monetary uplift which will help the game in the long run.

I for one am pretty excited about it and optimistic about its success.

Huge difference, this isn't the 1st push into US.

NZ and Poms test match
US have made World Cups
They were slated to host a World Cup too.

So there is a very minor history there
How is that a "huge difference"?

The NRL should be worried that more pacific islanders will choose the NFL over league.

Even if they don't make it the educational opportunities are huge.

When I was in New Orleans in 2015 they had Sharks V Can't remeber on the TVs in the pubs.

I don't know what channel it was on or if the game was live....but I was blown away to see NRL in American pubs on a Friday night.

What footprint did China have with AFL?
f**k knows, I'm sure that some ex-pats have organised a game in a park for some 40 year old fat balding men though, and are claiming its "huge" Which we rightfully laugh at them for

Surely we can't argue that RL is known to the Yanks because of those things you mentioned?

Toronto Wolfpack we’re the biggest rugby club in the northern hemisphere market

nyc and ottowa were set to follow before Robert elstone concluded the city of Toronto offered nothing financially for super league

Not making Toronto work when there was clear as day potential there was one of the biggest knock-ons in the history of the sport

As with most things with you it is an apples and oranges comparison

If we counting Canada too as the whole North American market.

In the last 20 years:

A professional team was going in the ESL

Australia has played USA in a match over there

Dragons in NRLW have had a Canadian come over

The current Souffs coach has played test matches for Canada

USA has made the QF in a World Cup

England has played NZ in a test.

So while 99.9% of people wouldn't know RL, It does have some presence over there.

That is without the links to RL for other better known people over there.

Doesn't ensure success but is a small footprint to build from
