The Las Vegas Thread

Anyone who thinks the name of the game is an issue for the Vegas experiment is either trolling or an idiot

The game sells itself

Aussies will educate Americans that’s it’s rugby (take a deep breath….) league.

If Vegas is still happening in ten years and selling out then it will be a huge huge success for Pvl.

Funnily the people complaining the game should change its name also were never fans of going to Vegas in the first place

No issue for the event. It just means the sport more generally does not benefit in any way…

(Refer back to that story about accidentally promoting a rugby club)

Anyone that watches 30 seconds of union can tell it’s not rugby league

Anyone who already knows about both sports.

are you able to imagine it from the perspective of someone who barely knows about one version, and has no idea that thrre are 2 distinct versions?

field and players look the sames, scoring method, tackling, attaching/passing/kicking, jerseys, ball all the same.

The only major distinction is the ruck/play-the-ball but why would a novice focus on that?

and why would you leave it to the novice fan to do that work? Why not tell them immediately in the name?

call the sport “hey, this is a totally f**king different game to Rugby Union” Rugby. It isnt catchy but at least you would stop the confusion…

Wb1234 said many people around the world when they say "rugby" they mean "rugby league" so this discussion about a potential change of name is a waste of time.

But the goal is to get be who are NOT interested to BECOME interested.

why would you put us such a barrier?

imagine branding it as “Football” and just expecting everyone to know the difference from the 30 other forms of football there are…

Major difference, most of these are easy to tell apart visually…

do you think anyone will look at the ice hockey on the tv and confuse it with field hockey?

for the uninitiated, RL and RU will look almost identical
Great post. Some here are utterly deluded.

Leniu? The man that didn't know calling someone a Monkey would cause such an issue. I wouldn't take his word for any insight into head office.
Well given you won't reference your source the only thing we've got.

Though not sure how discrediting Leniu helps if it he was the guy they sent.

The NRL chose him to be the mouth peice.

Most people aren't as stupid as is being made out on here. If they're interested enough in the NRLs promos and the games it's easy enough with the internet to see there are two types of Rugby

I think using the term Rugby works because most of the world have heard about it and understand what it's all about. The issue is the word League, because League literally means Competition and it's super confusing pairing it with Rugby as a different sport.

Could rebrand it to something like Action Rugby, Fast13 Rugby, or simply 13s Rugby, to actually make it clear it's a type of Rugby but it's own unique thing.

Also pushing the NRL brand is good and building it up as the premier club competition of any form of Rugby.
I've always thought Rugby 13s is an easy fix to the naming problem. It's what the French and Spanish speaking countries call it already

I think you give people too much credit! Especially in a country that votes in leaders like they do.

thats even more confusing considering you have rugby 7's owned by Rugby union. A number of times in countries union has tried to stop out league by claiming they are 'Rugby' so should control everything. We need to drop Rugby not League lol

So Union wants to claim all of rugby and you think a total retreat is the way to go

Imagine your fellow Brits had the same attitude in ww2 ?

they've already claimed it. For the last 20 years we allowed them to drop union and just use Rugby. The world now perceives 'Rugby' as Rugby union. the battle is lost, accept defeat and regroup.
And by the way we did the same thing in WW2, remember Dunkirk? Know when you're beaten, retreat, regroup and come back stronger.

Nah that’s just defeatist

Maybe you are related to Neville chamberlain ? lol

You’re totally wiping out a good chunk of the games history

Plus if you know anything about Vichy they denied rugby league the right to use the name rugby and had to use the derogatory game of x111
