I think you overcounted their combined brain cells by 3 :p ;)
Surely 2 at the most!!

The idea that Sydney ever talks about AFL is laughable, but hey I guess it sounds good to Slothfield saying it

Will Melbourne stop everything for their participation in Vegas when they eventually get the call-up? Will it even make a mention in their papers? I doubt it.

Yes I think this 4 games approach is questionable we'll see how it ends up playing out. At the least if the Warriors vs Raiders game for US FTA TV has the most crowd attending.

Many have said that once you come in you can't leave and come back, which will encourage people to stick around. However I can see a bunch of people coming in for a game or two and leaving. I hope it doesn't look like a half full stadium throughout the whole day even with 50k+ tickets sold.

3 games max I think. If they really want to have a SL game and a womens game then just bring along 2 NRL teams not 4.
Or the WCC, Ladies and NRL game.

Who’s going to sit there for over 8hrs, noone. It’s going to look similar to last years game the majority of the time I feel, maybe even less populated.

I don’t really get this strategy. On one hand the nrl are trying to hype this game and sell tickets so it looks pretty full and looks great for US FTA TV. Then on the other hand they schedule a full day of games which would ensure the stadium will never have all ticket holders seated at any one time and therefore look sparse.
There will be a mass exodus at the start of the womens gane.

Smh reports Las Vegas tourism pays the NRL 620,000 usd pa, which pays for the cost of the stadium, so essentally the NRL gets the stadium for free.

Fujak lives in Victoria, and “it’s probably the most I had heard and seen Victorians talking about rugby league”, he says. “It looks really good for the NRL to do this. It makes them look innovative; it makes them look like a leading code.” It’s something the AFL would never be able to do, he says, because of the incompatibility of its field with American stadiums.“

Interesting Melbourne paid under a million for the nfl game

No way Vegas doesn’t make a profit but if they make a big deal about the copycats will try to go there faster

Unfortunately I agree.

The SL game will be a half full stadium
The Warriors v Raiders game should have the majority of the 50k in attendance.
Jillaroos vs England will be another half full stadium.
Penrith vs Sharks might even have less than that (Just the diehard panthers and sharks supporters that travelled)

The last two games could be the most empty and those are the ones shown on Aussie TV. Watch all the fumble losers point the finger at a half empty stadium.

I can't imagine a different more optimistic scenario playing out where the stadium 'looks' 50k full for the entirety of the day. Even if people go to the bar within the stadium rather than leaving, it will have the same effect of looking emptier.

I think the logical thing to do for year 3 to make it bigger and better is to split it up over 2 days. 2-3 games maximum per day.

That way we can grow exposure, get more teams participating, sell more tickets and make sure the ground looks full.

day 1
- SL game (9.30pm timeslot in UK)
- USA vs X (Prime time USA - Play on Fox FTA)
- NRL game (2pm AU)

day 2
- WCC (9.30pm timeslot in UK, morning AU)
- NRL game (Prime time USA - Play on Fox FTA)
- NRL game (2pm AU)

Seriously, who gives a rat`s arse what the fumblers and anyone else thinks, everyone knows they sold 50k odd seats, I dare say the commentators during the game will mention it more than once, and everyone will also know that at some point 50k came and went throughout the day.
HST I still think people will stick around longer than you think, maybe the first game might be a bit short but that`s it. These are League fans after all who`ve paid a wad of money to see League, there will be plenty of time to do other things in Vegas.

Some will leave most will stay

People aren’t travelling all the way around the world then walking out half way through

They should’ve allowed pass outs so people could have a break during the womens game but probably didn’t so the stadium can sell more food and drinks

Sure most of the league fans will stay all day. That will be about 30k-35k. But supposedly we should have another 20k curious Americans dropping in and can’t imagine they’re going to spend the entirety of their day watching a sport they know nothing about. They’ll pop in for a couple games max.

I think at best the stadium will look about the same as it did last year during the lower drawing games this year, when they said there were 40k+ sold but probably really more like 30-35k in attendance. Which I guess didn’t look too bad.

Packing the stadium for the two nrl games will be critical for the nrl so hope they got their strategy right.

For example prioritising the best pre game entertainment and acts before the two nrl games to really encourage people to stick around. Maybe some giveaways or other activities to entice people to stay.

NRL ABOUT TO SMASH $100M BARRIER

Rugby league is on the verge of crashing through the $100 million barrier when it comes to the game’s economic impact in Las Vegas.

Vegas Con can reveal that last year’s double header was worth more than $77 million to Sin City in terms of economic impact.

However, this year’s quadruple header is set to leave last year in the shade given the increased interest in the concept and the inclusion of two English teams as well as the women’s Test.

Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority boss Steve Hill confirmed the economic numbers and revealed Sin City officials were open to extending their deal with the NRL.

The NRL struck a five-year deal with Las Vegas tourism which has three years to run. However, the concept has been such a success that Las Vegas officials are open to starting talks over an extension.

They want us so much then expect for them to really start helping us get a crowd so we will keep on coming.

Tourism benefit to lv > 100 million usd
Current payment by lv =620k usd

Nrl should wait and get other cities to bid and not accept the first offer from lv

Even if its 5 million usd pa that would make the event a massive profit maker

And 5 million is less than five percent of the economic benefit to lv

This is awesome.

Getting a 30-40k boost of international visitors in a single weekend from around the world is a meaningful impact to any city even Vegas.
