Bring back the Wolfpack !!!!“According to NRL CEO Andrew Abdo:
The move is also part of a grand vision to grow the game internationally.
The NRL has announced a team from Papua New Guinea will join the league in 2028. It is also aiming for more integration with the Super League in England, perhaps one day eyeing franchises in the US and the Pacific.

It took the UFC years before it become the monster it is now so if NRL can afford a loss on it ofr a number of years lets see.....I hope it makes a small profit in the long term.Hi Timmah, I agree with alot of your comments. Yes PVL and the rest of the NRL admin should be praised for how they have placed the game in a much stronger financial position and are looking to grow it but at the same time should also be questioned when necessary. I think taking the game to Vegas is good, but it feels like the rhetoric has gone from we only want to capture 1% of the US gambling $ and TV ratings and the money will roll in to what a great way to launch the NRL season, the publicity it has achieved compared to having a local launch and it's a great trip away for supporters (which are all true, but they would have been well down the list of why the NRL has gone to Vegas).
I posted earlier that based on about 50k tickets sold, less that 15k appear to have been bought by American's once you take away tickets bought by Aussie's, Kiwi's and Pom's travelling. And I would say a large % of the 15k would be expats in the US craving to watch a game live. While not fair to compare the NFL, NBA and Baseball with the NRL as they have global recognition, they would draw much larger crowds in Australia from locals despite our much smaller population compared to the US take up of NRL tickets.
As others have noted what do we expect to have happened after 1 year. It would be interesting if there are figures available as to number of tickets sold to American's last year compared to this year and also tv ratings and gambling dollars.
Agree. All sports starts from somewhere and if Vegas helps to grow the game in the US fantastic. Even if Vegas doesn't succeed long term the hierarchy should still be congratulated for taking that risk. The financial position they have put the NRL in means they can such risks and absorb losses from such a venture. It took the UFC years before it become the monster it is now so if NRL can afford a loss on it ofr a number of years lets see.....I hope it makes a small profit in the long term.
That's a terrible way to do business. LV has been great for the NRL and the NRL has been great for Vegas. We should continue to build that partnership in all good faith.Tourism benefit to lv > 100 million usd
Current payment by lv =620k usd
Nrl should wait and get other cities to bid and not accept the first offer from lv
Even if its 5 million usd pa that would make the event a massive profit maker
And 5 million is less than five percent of the economic benefit to lv
That's a terrible way to do business. LV has been great for the NRL and the NRL has been great for Vegas. We should continue to build that partnership in all good faith.
Besides, name a better stadium and city..
Having said all that, if there's room to negotiate things up a little or a lot.. I think we have the guy to do it..
Agree. Nobody knew if this venture would be a success so Vegas authorities were not going to pay big dollars at the beginning. If this continues to grow and there is enough benefit for both parties you will probably find a renegotiation of the arrangement. That's a terrible way to do business. None better. Vegas is the event capital of the world, with the best stadium in the world and now have boots on the ground, we're understanding how to network successfully in the city..They were originally looking at la first
Can’t remember the other cities they looked at
Loads of cities would love 100 million in tourism and pay for it
Eels dogs dragons and prob cowboys it should sell out next year
That increases the events value
Sofi ain’t bad and la has loads of attractions and probably cheaper hookers too lolNone better. Vegas is the event capital of the world, with the best stadium in the world and now have boots on the ground, we're understanding how to network successfully in the city..
You can't name a better location because there isn't one.
Having said all that, I'm not opposed to a location change after the 5 years but with that risk, we'd need a substantial financial reward upfront and not one we can source ourselves and risk damaging to good relationships we're building now.

Las Vegas Raiders player Tyler Manoa will blow Canberra's iconic Viking horn ahead of the clash against the Warriors at the NFL team's home base.www.abc.net.au
The only other cities viable for a one off event IMO are Miami and New Orleans.
Nola has an artificial playing surface.
Unless you think people want to go to Glendale...
The rest of the stadiums with grass don't have roofs and are I cities which do not have tourist friendly weather in early March.
