Given the odd number of teams in NRL could they incorporate it into Magic weekend in Aus?
Big disruption mid season for the English club but could be part of that fixture?

There’s an odd number of teams now lol

Every year one team misses out on magic

I'm sorry, I may have missed something, but apart from a few thousand fat northern bastards (thanks Hale & Pace for that one) singing nursery rhymes, are the poms contributing anything to the NRL's Vegas venture?

Like $$$$?

You seem to be mixing up Australian apathy (largely due to the looking down on the English competition as second rate) with the opportunity that presents itself. In England it is seen a as a big deal and regularly sells out the venue being played at as well as gets decent media covg. especially when a english club wins and is crowned world champion.
With the NRL's new awakening to the value of 'events' I am ever hopeful Australia will wake up to the golden egg opportunity it presents.
Kind of why they are treated as they are. Gotta give the soap dodgers a reason to flash those pearly browns. The last fixture was pretty much as much of a contest as WWE.

If it was ever played during Magic Round and there was some actual prestige to winning it the Pommy team would be curb stomped.

Raiders vs. New Zealand Warriors (P) (Fox, 8:00 PM-8:59 PM, 59 min.) • 0.371 million viewers • 0.20/1 HH rating/share (Range: 0.245-0.258 million households) • 0.08/1 A18-49 rating/share (Range: 0.101-0.114 million adults 18-49; 0.06/1 F18-49, 0.11/2 M18-49) • 0.12/1 A25-54 rating/share (Range: 0.142-0.154 million adults 25-54; 0.10/1 F25-54, 0.15/2 M25-54)

Where’s the people who questioned how this game was being received in America

Wow

371k is a massive jump from last year

If they continue with it they can break the 1 million barrier

Cable to FTA. That is massively down on normal FTA figures. The women's college basketball game after it got nearly double that on the same channel.

The Obvious choice is to scrap the Women's tests, which was a lopsided disaster and the gap that it placed between NRL fixtures likely discouraged people from attending.

Two NRL games back to back is a long sitting and asking them to stick around for 2 hours in between was a bridge too far.
And in all honesty, the Women's brought no fans of their own of significance.

I'd say , having the Women's was possibly around a 2k to 5k net loss of attendance at a guess..

2026 hopefully looks like:

Saint Helens vs Catalans
Dolphins vs Parramatta
Dogs vs Dragons

They're not all the biggest draws but big enough to get an increase and still have some big clubs to play in years 4 and 5..

Leeds vs ?
Titans vs Tigers
Melbourne vs Newcastle

5
Hull kr vs hull fc
Cowboys vs PNG
Broncos vs Souths
I doubt they make PNG play their first ever game in vegas and nor should they.

Obviously the 17th team will have to go in 2028 which in your case is Cowboys. As far as teams going back a 2nd time, it is almost a certainty the roosters will be the first to do it as we have invested more than any other club in the states with the LA roosters and wider partnership with the USARL

370k is a great result, it’s in the range many here were hoping for as an optimistic figure.

it’s unreasonable to expect that it would get massive ratings in the us when no one knows about it. College basketball is a sport well known and followed in the US.

If fox keep up the fta broadcast it’s a good base to keep building from.

Did you expect a foreign sport that no one’s heard to rate higher than basketball ?

Have you got any more data on how “massively down” the ratings were in that time slot ?

How does 371k compare with NHL, MLS or MLR ?

I was expecting 100k after last year 61k

Some modelling I'd like to see the NRL aim for here, if Fox continue to give the NRL 1 FTA game each year for Vegas.

2024 - 61k cable
2025 - 371k FTA + Start of always on US marketing + NRL regular season games on TV
2026 - 450k FTA
2027 - 540k FTA
2028 - 620K FTA

woow, thats enormous!!

you can guess that the turnover would have meant the total viewers seeing +5 minutes was upwards of 1mil

im sure plenty had a sticky-beak and decided it was sh*t. Getting the game infornt of people to make that judgement is how you build your base!!

If even 10k of this audience went away with a good impression and remembering the NRL brand, this is a big deal

The exact same time slot the previous week got 1.3m.

What was on ? is 1.3m the average rating for that time slot ?

was there another sport that Fox could have shown instaed of the nrl that would have rated 1.3 m ?

Genuine questions, because if Fox could have got 1.3m with another sport then they won’t be showing NRL again on FTA.
