Where’s the people who questioned how this game was being received in America

Wow

371k is a massive jump from last year

If they continue with it they can break the 1 million barrier
Fox lost 1 million viewers compared to the same time slot the week before apparently. I wonder how happy they are?

So we've reached 0.1% of the population. Only another 33million 700k to go to get to the targetted 1% :)

Seeing people try and spinning 371k as a negative for rugby league is simply hilarious

Pvl is a god and we should be thanking him for securing such coverage from Foxsports

What was on ? is 1.3m the average rating for that time slot ?

was there another sport that Fox could have shown instaed of the nrl that would have rated 1.3 m ?

Genuine questions, because if Fox could have got 1.3m with another sport then they won’t be showing NRL again on FTA.
It was Men's college basketball. Duke v Illinois. The former is a big deal, the latter is not.

I don't think there is any doubt they could have got that again last week with another college game.

That timeslot doesn't average 1.3m, in fact it averages around 320K across 2024 (Source: USTV DB)

Fox had the College Basketball game between Duke vs. Illinois the week before.

Wow so nrl helped them grow their viewership

They must be so happy they got that for free

College basketball has always been a big ratings winner for TV in the US. In fact it has been known to out rate NBA games.

Some things to note about these ratings:

- The Fox telecast started at 7pm ET, these ratings state they are only for 8pm ET - 9pm ET so they aren't the full picture. They may go down (though they are more likely to go up)
- For the 8pm - 8:30pm half hour timeslot, the game drew an average of 403,000. For 8:30pm - 9:00pm it drew 318,000
- NRL was the 4th most watched program nationally in both those timeslots. In the demographics, 18-34 & 25-54 it was ranked 3rd for the 8pm - 8:30pm timeslot.

For a match that was barely promoted and shown in a foreign market, it did okay.

Yep, there's no point looking at how it compares to the whole year. During parts of the year there is no sport on. You can only compare it with college basketball season, because that's what it is competing against and replacing.

If Fox would normally have screen a college basketball game that would have gotten 1.3m viewers, and they instead got 370k, that's a massive loss to them.

Are your "notes" just completing ignoring cable and only talking about the 5 networks?

Because there's at least 4 cable programs on the list that beat it during that timeslot.

Mlr average is around 60k and mls is around 200k

And both sports are holding a World Cup there

371k is excellent and it’s growing

America are bidding for the 2030 rugby league World Cup too so Vegas ties in with that
add to that NHL regular season games average between 250 k to 500k depending which network they are on.

For the NRL to be in the same ball park as well established competitions is impressive.

The problem the NRL has now is that cutting both the extra games would be admitting the mistake publicly, which would result in a bad PR hit.
They already have and I haven`t seen them criticized once, not once, in fact given the positive vibe around the whole event seems that most journalists writing on the venture are happy to agree that the NRL is still tinkering with it to work out the best combination.

Do you think Fox thought the NRL would pull the same figures as the NCAA?

PVL said they are after 1% of the sporting market, not 1 % of the entire population lol

So these are basically the 2nd half ratings. I wonder how many people tuned in at the beginning and left after halftime.

PVL never said he was after 1% anyway. He was given an example of how big the market is and that even 1% is substantial. These are just troll trying to extrapolate a negative out of an overwhelming positive for Rugby league.
Last year was 61k... that 61,000 people who were introduced to Rugby league! That otherwise would have not been..
These numbers today are incredible!
Hundreds of thousands of people were introduced to Rugby league!!!
If just 1% of those become Rugby league fans.. 3,700 new fans!!!
What other sports are doing that in a day?
