At the end of the day the afl have maxed out, the nrl is on a roll with massive potential to go. NRL is almost as big as the afl nationally and haven’t even tapped into some key markets yet like WA or SA. Let alone internationally.

These afl pundits can enjoy their same old caarrrrlton collingwood game at the G.

Perth bears will be announced within 2 to 4 weeks

The big push is international. Nz png and Tonga Samoa Fiji are where the big growth will come

Yes while the AFL expansion plans are Tasmania which will be a money pit and Canberra which is already supposedly GWS territory so will cut GWS support even further if they come in. Both smaller markets as well which will only tap into existing afl audiences.
GWS will simply move to Canberra.

That was beautiful to watch.

Fumblefans thinking our game is no good? Turn it up.

the last comment about ‘well we can bring back origin too’ hahaha pathetic.
Yeah, the fat bloke with the black hair just looked sick throughout the whole segment, like he was being forced to eat a shit-sandwich, and his pathetic little interjections " we`ll create our own buzz", love it.
We can`t underestimate how important it is to be the agenda setters in the eyes of the general public, every day punters take this stuff in and it also undermines the status of their sport.
Bring on Perth and PNG, they can have Tassie. LOL.

Do you all generally know how full the stadium looked? Did someone post pics? Did the telecast show it?
We watched the two NRL games and some of the women`s and honestly the crowd looked great because the majority was packed into the three lower tiers and only if you looked real hard, and you wouldn`t, could you see that the upper tier was pretty sparse. More than respectable and in fact I`d say pretty bloody good.

Questions.

How different are the NRL and ESL rules? Did Vegas see 2 different versions of League (I didn’t see any of the games)

Also, the NRL have spent 2 years trying to differentiate Rugby and Rugby League, then ESL fans arrive and make a massive noise about their ‘rugby.’

If they want to keep the ratings going in USA then dogs v dragons has to be the 11 am game which I can’t see happening

If they are going to put the super league game into that us free to air time slot then it’s going to be a huge waste

For that reason maybe dogs v dragons at 11 ish

Super league 130

Other nrl game cowboys v storm / eels at 330

The fta exposure in America is huge and if the numbers keep showing that kind of growth will unlock a lot of money for the nrl and growth for the game in America

Stadium would look full from the start with most of the pommies and the dogs/ dragons fans in from kick off

It’s going to be harder for the English game to get good ratings next year in England because without the women’s game they can’t have a game at 9 pm kick off in England it’s going to be 11 or 1 am

MLS final last year got 470k (down from over 800k lol) and nrl is already close to that figure

And their average is under 200k a game and their tv deal is 250 million pa

That’s what a tiny portion of the us sporting market is worth

I see no reason to think Bulldogs V Dragons would rate any better in America than Storm V Cowboys or any other game for that matter.

Leave the SL where it is, same with the first NRL game in the US prime time spot then bring the 2nd NRL game forward 2 hours.

1:30pm Vegas (9:30pm England)
4pm Vegas (11am AEDT, 7pm East Coast US for the Fox game)
6pm Vegas (1pm AEDT)

Finishing at 8pm Vegas time would appeal to the tourists keen to go and enjoy a night in the city after the games much more than the 10:30pm finish from this year.

in the north of England there is only one rugby. Shame Australia let union just walk away with the name.

Yep, there's no point looking at how it compares to the whole year. During parts of the year there is no sport on. You can only compare it with college basketball season, because that's what it is competing against and replacing.

If Fox would normally have screen a college basketball game that would have gotten 1.3m viewers, and they instead got 370k, that's a massive loss to them.

we also got less than the Super Bowl. Failure.

I cringe when Aussie league fans call that game rugby

They are doing the work of the rfu for them

It was always union and league. Then union did a rebrand in the 90s to try and be popular and claim to be the only rugby code in the world denying league access to govt funding and being played at the Olympics

I’d love to see the nrl strike a deal with fox even if it’s a small amount over the next few years just to get some regular games on fox fta and cable.

Even just a game of the week plus origin and all finals.
They get regular season games now, but not on fta, and it’s not consistent.

My mate in Kentucky is now watching all the “rugby” he can. Last year though I found it hard to work out which game he would get. I thought it would be a consistent time slot fixture that they’d show in the US (Saturday 7:30 Aussie as a guess) but it didn’t seem so. Some weeks he couldn’t find a game at all, occasionally he’d get 2 games, sometimes it was the Thursday night game from memory. It was odd.
