We did Denny's pancakes for breakfast and found a good little bar called Stage Door Liquor.
You could get 5 beers for US$5 and $1 hotdogs, so was a good place just to chill for a while.
Think you are supposed to play the machines but they never annoyed us about this.
Battista's Hole in the Wall (next door) was OK Italian too.

There's been plenty of commentary around just how expensive Vegas is and probably puts people off returning. Agreed that they need to get some boots on the ground to move tickets for locals.

I think the crowd tops out around 45k again which is ok, it's paying for itself but more importantly back in Australia and the UK it's vital hype to the seasons start.

Interested to see if we can get a rise in US TV ratings....

It's not about US ratings. It's always been about having this event as the only thing that is talked about to start the season. Pushing AFL out of the papers. Be nice if the poms could get some traction for themselves out of it in the English media.

UK teams were added to assist their game, and potentially push up the crowd numbers as well.

Congratulations to Skirlaugh Rugby League Club on their invitation to the Las Vegas 9s Tournament! This is such a prestigious event and it doesn’t get much bigger than this. It’s truly a dream come true for the club to play in Sin City.

The Rugby League Fan Club have reached out to Skirlaugh Rugby Head Coach Matt Danville for his thoughts on this exciting opportunity.

"As Head Coach of Skirlaugh Rugby, it’s a huge honor to announce that we’ve been invited to compete in one of the most exciting events in the rugby world—the Las Vegas 9s Tournament. This is not only a massive opportunity for our players but also a testament to the hard work, commitment, and passion that everyone at Skirlaugh has shown in recent years"

Matt continued

"To be recognized on an international stage is something truly special. The Las Vegas 9s is one of the most competitive and high-profile rugby tournaments, attracting teams from around the world to showcase the fast-paced and exhilarating nature of 9-a-side rugby. The invitation marks a new chapter for our club, and we’re beyond excited to represent not only Skirlaugh but the broader rugby community in the UK"

"For a team from our corner of the world to be invited to such a prestigious event speaks volumes about the growth of rugby at the grassroots level. It’s a reward for all the effort our players, coaches, and supporters have put in, and I couldn’t be prouder of everyone involved in Skirlaugh Rugby"

We asked Danville how does a club prepare for such a prestigious event.

"Now that we have this opportunity, our focus shifts to preparation. We know the standard in Las Vegas will be incredibly high, with teams from some of the best rugby nations in the world. But this is exactly the kind of challenge we thrive on. It’s a chance for our players to test themselves against some of the best in the game and to showcase what they’re capable of"

"We’ve already started working hard on our strategy and game plan. The 9-a-side format is unique, and it’s crucial we’re prepared to adapt to the speed of the game and the skill required to excel in that environment. Our team has been working tirelessly to improve both physically and mentally to ensure we’re in the best shape possible come February"

"I have complete confidence in our squad. The players we have at Skirlaugh possess a fantastic mix of skill, determination, and heart, and I know they’re ready to rise to this occasion. It will be a tough tournament, but one thing is for certain, we will give it everything we’ve got"

The Rugby League Fan Club would like to wish the club all the best in preparation for the event, and we will follow this up with a video interview in the coming weeks.

Didn't know about this. Sounds good.

Mix of professional, semi pro clubs and amateur clubs. Be a good weekend for all involved.

I wasn't sure where to post this so I plonked it here.

Well just looking at the numbers that Hong Kong Sevens which is a bit of a crown in the jewel for Rugby 7s comp got 130K over the 3 day event.

But look a little closer, and you see that the local Union comp tops out stadium wise at 3k. Showing that the market really isn't there.

It's not going to generate interest other than expats attending. I'm not sure that market is good enough for us to chase. It's not like China will suddenly go all in for Rugby League, it's more likely they will push harder for Union which gives them more clout.

I probably should add, that Las Vegas screams extravagance, Hong Kong screams bad 80s B grade action movies and now it's under China's control, probably not ideal for any sport to use as a launchpad. Probably be vetoed by the Australian Govt who would threathen to take away the PNG money they are providing us to starve off Chinese influence there. Why would the NRL bite the hand that feeds it?
