Tapp to explore legal options against Rennie
September 4, 2003

SOUTH Sydney boss David Tapp said today the club would consider its legal options to ensure Dallas Rennie honoured his contract with the Rabbitohs.

Kiwi junior international Rennie, 19, agreed to terms with Souths for the next two seasons only to sign a deal with Manly.

Souths and Manly officials were due to meet at an NRL disputes committee hearing here today to clear up the matter but the Sea Eagles refused to show up after receiving legal advice they were under no obligation to attend.

Tapp said he did not want to get into a bunfight with Manly over the 110kg front-rower but added he expected Rennie to honour his verbal agreement with Souths.

"We can't lose sight of the fact that the athlete is responsible for this mess," said Tapp.

"It's a bit hard to blame Manly. If we take legal action it'd have to be against the player and that might seem a bit extreme - he's only 19 years old.

"But we still believe the player has an obligation to wear the red and green and we'll be pursuing every legal option available to ensure he does.

"We're not going to spend a million dollars chasing him. We're going to put up a fight but we won't be stupid about it."

Former New Zealand coach Frank Endacott negotiated the South Sydney deal on Rennie's behalf before Graham Lowe convinced him to sign with the Sea Eagles.

"Endacott's wiped his hands of it," said Tapp.

"He's that appalled by what he (Rennie) did to us."

Who gives a s#*t if Dallas Rennie signed with Manly instead of the Bunnies
He could'nt even make the Warriors reserve bench so it's not a loss at .
He probably would have played Premier League all season anyway.

Sounds like another Fui Fui Moi Moi........came from Bartercard Cup and struggled with the speed of Premier League. No great loss Souths have a pretty good forward pack without him.

The Kid is 19, a junior Kiwi, and had a bad year with injuries, and u are all laying into him because he couldn't get a start in front of Seu Seu, Villasanti, Tookey and Paleasina, geez why don't u give the kid a chance

I'm not bagging Rennie I just think that we have sufficient forward strength so that he is no great loss. He is is an untried 19 year old I wish him well wherever he goes.

not a big loss - if he doesnt wanna play with souths then too bad.

we have a pretty strong forward pack and while another young prop would be good we have a few young blokes that might step up

What happen with the meeting souths had with the NRL abot DALLAS RENNIE

Manly Daily

MANLY have refused to front an NRL disputes committee today as the tug-o-war with Souths over prop Dallas Rennie reached a stand-off yesterday.
The Sea Eagles have received legal advice informing them they are under no obligation to attend the mediation hearing at NRL headquarters.
Manly claim to have done nothing wrong in signing Rennie to a two-year deal last month after the rookie Kiwi front-rower originally indicated he was joining Souths.
"The fact still remains that Manly is the only club to have Dallas Rennie's signature on a contract," Manly football manager Peter Peters said yesterday.
"No-one from Souths bothered talking to him face-to-face and they wouldn't know him if they fell over him.
"The kid thinks (Souths CEO) David Tapp is a dancer and (chairman) Nick Pappas is the head of the Greek Orthodox Church.
"Why do Souths persist in chasing players who don't want to play for them?
"Our legal advice is we haven't done anything wrong and we've informed the NRL we won't be attending mediation."
Tapp yesterday confirmed the Rabbitohs would continue to fight for Rennie's services despite Manly's reluctance to discuss the issue.
"It's not the South Sydney way (to give up)," he said.
"But this isn't really a Souths against Manly case.
"It's about an athlete agreeing to terms and then performing a giant backflip.
"We believe we have a legally binding agreement in place and we will keep fighting until it's resolved."

Yes, please save our time, energy and money for winning more games.

Clearly something that is more important.

There there Chris - don't cry. Of course we will let you out ouf your contract and you can keep the money we paid you upfront to play this year. Now you go and have a nice lie down and don't worry, I know not playing for the rest of the year isn't fun but I'm sure next year you will be back playing. No, you don't have to sign an agreement that when you leave you won't play for another NRL Club this year

;-)

and back on subject - i thought Rennie's Manager gave a verbal agreement with Souths and when he went back to his client Rennie said no?

I don't quite understand the logic of this. Threaten the kid to a point where he agrees to play for Souths. And if the kid doesn't perform, what then???

Let him go and move on.

Its not that he wasn't good enough to play top level league, you'd be hard pressed to find any props that would keep guys like Villa the Gorilla, Jerry See-you See-you and Mr. Affective Iafaeta Paleaaesina on the sidelines! If Rennie played it would most likely have been at the expence of Afeaka and that just ludacris! Its definitely the rabbitohs loss.. and premiere league?! For the Rabbitohs?!  Shows what you know!

It is no big loss, he is a untried at any sort of decent level, injury prone kid.. Who gives a toss, Manly can pay big dollar and have him sit the season out after his first big hit   ... Bye Bye Rennie...
