Just saw this movie, I reckon it was awesome! Some good performances in there too, I highly reccommend this, about time sandler did a comedy that didn't involve him falling for a girl in the end.

anyone else seen it?

Yeah, I saw it a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. It wasn't great (I still think his best work was Happy Gilmore), but had some really well cast 'cameos'. Kevin Nash (of WCW/WWE fame) was surprisingly good, whilst Stone Cold Steve Austin was pretty ordinary.

Haven't seen the original, but I've seen the British adaptation (Mean Machine) and was kind of put off by how similar they were.

Definitely worth a look though, and I agree that it was refreshing not to have a romantic angle.

I'm sure you noticed him, just might not have recognised him. He was the prison guard who was given female hormones and got all emotional in the big game.

I saw this one a couple of weeks ago and thought it was alright. There were some really funny bits but the Maccy D's product placement was a bit much by the end of it!

Does anyone know if WWE funded part of this film? I seemed to remember reading a while ago about them funding a film set in a prison with Austin having a bit part.

they weren't one of the production companies mentioned in the credits.

Happy Madison (Sandlers company) wouldn't need any outside funds to help it pay for any film.

THAT was Nash?

WOW! He did do a good job

Yeah, I've never been a fan of Nash for his role in the demise of WCW- but he impressed me in the film. Comedy is a lot harder than people think, and as an actor I thought he nailed a lot of his timing and knew when over-acting was appropriate.

Had "Mean Machine" never been released this movie would of been alot better, none the less, it was still awesome.

Personally I thought both 'Mean Machine' and the latest version of 'The Longest Yard' both missed the mark in points. Good, but not great

I haven't seen the movie or the original but is it really predictable? ie. a washed up quarterback gets a group of misfits and makes a football team that eventually wins?

Pretty much, yeah. That's how these movies usually go
