Did the Magpies originally play out of Ashfield? Was just wondering since there is a wests ashfield leagues club? If so why did they relocate to C/Town? Changing Demographics of Ashfield, money?

Just curious that's all.

wests originally played out of pratten park in ashfield, then moved to cambletown

Wests moved to Campbelltown in the 1980s (1987 I think) but prior to that (and after leaving Pratten Park), thay played for MANY years at Lidcombe Oval. Changing demographics and the introduction of new clubs over the years have forced changes. Wests had to give up territory to St George, then Canterbury, then Parramatta. Had a huge area initially.

Very first home ground for the maggies was The recreational ground, or "The Rec" as it was known back then. Frederick st. Ashfield....where Hammond Park now is, just down from Bunnings on Parra rd.
They were known as the cherry pickers back then too.
