The man to blame for our demise

Victorian businessman David Crawford who was the man behind the Crawford report that recommended funding cuts to our Olympics sports programs. The moron came out with this classic quote to justify his report; "Medal counts were not the best way to gauge Australia's success on the International area"
This is the result of the Federal government hiring a f**king accountant to tell us how to allocate sporting funds

Pretty obvious under a Labor led govt, we are hopelessly f**ked and it's embarassing to be honest.

Under the previous govt we were a dominant force and it soon as it changed, it was the start of our demise.

Lashing out and pointing fingers is a complete waste of energy. The damn Brits have beaten us into 2nd so many times and that's no surprise as they are the hosts! Funding increases will only come if you are happy to pay more taxes and happy to see the state of your roads, hospitals, environment etc decline for more gold.

I would've been happy to sacrifice the tunnels here in Brissy that hardly get used to win more gold lol.

If my memory serves me right Labour was in power when the Bejing Olympics were on. So a baseless discussion. Been istening to Alan Jones again have we people? Anyone with half a brain knows the Liberals only know how to save money and get a budget surplus. Pointless political discussion. Funding was provided in lieu of Sydney Olympics and we've enjoyed the spoils since.

Who gives a toss really about gold medals...spend it wisely on things that matter.

These things go in cycles, and I'm sure we'll have some top female swimmers coming along soon. IMO swimming should be a female only sport at competitive level.

And cycling shouldn't be there, nor tennis. Rowing should be female only too. We won a swimming Gold, England/Britain won 0 Gold in the pool.

Labor had been in barely six months when Beijing was on and the Libs had only just got in when Atlanta came around but when it came to Sydney, Athens and Beijing, it was nothing to do with Labor. How did we do in L.A., Seoul and Barcelona.

See a pattern here?

Can you give me an idea in real terms (ie $$$) how much funding has been cut under the Labor govt? Then you've sold me. You can't ignore the fact that we were the hosts in Sydney and of course we sunk heavy dollars there and enjoyed the spoils afterwards.

Where was the money cut from Olympic programs redirected? Also the sport vs roads, hospitals, and schools dilemma is false one. All 3 are State responsilities (although the Federal Govt has been butting in for a long time, despite having no Constitutional right to do so*). Frankly, sports funding is no more wasted money than arts funding.

*The Federal Govt has responsibility for the National Highway, but that's about it.

The lines are still on the bottom of the pool full of water no matter the funding. Swimming fail...blame funding fail.

Because coaches do their job gratis...

P.s. The Labour party were in Government during Sydney, Athens, and Beijing, though to be honest I would have assumed that would have more to do with Great Britain's performance than Australia's...

You do know that the government that set up government funding for the Olympics was the Whitlam Labor Government?

We haven't been losing because we lack the skill though, that's part of what makes it so frustrating, it's been primarily psychological.

Mitchell Watts' was completely lost yesterday, you could see his focus was shot and so was his confidence, he just couldn't get the flow right and he still got silver.

Our problem is our athletes are mentally weak this Olympics, we have won so many Gold medals because we had dark horses step up and that all comes down to an optimal level of arousal and confidence.

Maybe if Labours pork barrelling yielded any positive results it would be easier to swallow, but what has setting up all these committees provided us with? A f**king carbon tax?

f**k it, at least the rest of the world doesn't see how shit we are when it comes to other things.
