The Many Faces of the Mighty Red V Jersey

Highlight: the Penfolds jumper.

Lowlight: the Canterbury produced version circa 1997/98...a short era where the Red V looked as though it literally fell from the shoulders.

Special mention to today's current version. While ISC have attempted to rectify the shortness of the Red V by making it more chunky, it still looks too small. Combine this with just too many sponsors, today's jumpers are nothing more than mobile billboards. I would part with my hard earned cash even if you paid me.

I currently own a 1965 "retro" jersey, and this should satisfy me for a long time to come.

It appears that way:D
Upon closer scrutiny, there could be a few more who have time traveled!

I'll collect my coat on the way out.
Apologies OKB, I'll remain on topic from now on:oops:

All good mate, forum threads / posts can move about and l have no problem with that.
Think your right about Matt Rodgers & Nightingale!
History has a way of repeating itself.

One for the traditionalists. Looks like the Red V was hand cut and hand sewn by their dear old grandma's.........quite a bit of size, colour and position variances lol. It seems Norms granny forget the emblem altogether.

That was well and truly the big red v
Being a purist nothing for mine will ever match Norm Provan running down the race at the SCG in that jumper
Giant men in a jumper that intimidated the opposition
It didn't matter where you were at the ground as soon as they came out of the sheds the roar of the crowd and the site of that jumper was awesome
To be honest the Balmain, West's, Easts Berries jumpers of that era were great too but not nearly as good as the Dragons
The Kangaroos jumper a classic as well

I have Pat Jarvis's no 13 Penfolds jumper.
My mate bought it at a fund raising function many years ago for my son.
My daughter Nikki proudly had it on at the 2010 GF when my son was OS in London.

Definitely the Penfold jersey. Got my first one in 1989 for my 4th birthday. Mum even ironed a #4 on the back for me. Got another one in 1993 for my 8th birthday. Nothing can describe the pride and joy the jersey used to bring me when I pulled it on.

I remember running around in the backyard 1 out pretending I was Ricky Walford.

It is amazing how striking the jersey is ............ all that white really allows the big red V stand out.
Would of have taken a lot of OMO and elbow grease to keep them clean.

Wish I still had my original Penfolds one - I throw it away the morning after the Melbourne GF - It was already to tight on me and it had seen 4 GF losses. God I was broken hearted after those purple scum won.

*sigh*

I liked the Integral energy one but the Penfolds one will always be the one I most identify with.

For me, the Penfolds one does symbolise the RED V. The modern one in a similar way. The only ingredients our Jersey should have is a proper RED V. Everything else is icing. I have enjoyed the heritage jerseys over the last couple of years as well, because they symbolise our history.

Al these alternate jerseys without our RED V are not Dragons jerseys, frankly I cant stand them. I have 3 of the old Penfolds (one with signatures from the 93), One of the type similar to the hand sown ones (also without the emblem), and a collection of the current versions over the last few years were I see the RED V prominent and in its rightful position.

Yes, I may be a little old fashioned like others, but we should never run out without the RED V. That's who we are.

yeah, looks crisp and sure would have taken some serious washing skills to keep it looking bright.
