Well that was a tough watch

In hindsight the decision to take the fight was the wrong one and he needed better advice orm his team. The thing is i'm not convinced there isn't a similar result with a full camp anyways as Islam looked absolutely gigantic in there. Seemd like there was a 2 weight class difference, not one.

LW is over for Alex now, needs to go back to FW and just keep dominating there and surpass Aldo's defence mark

Chimaev got the job done but I continue to be unimpressed by him and not sure what the UFC sees. Both Burns and Usman have proven that if you survive the onslaught in the 1st round you are a good chance of winning because he has no gas tank. I thought he was lucky to get the decision in both those fights. In this one that last takedown in round 3 probably saved him but I personally agree with the judge who scored it a draw after a 10-8 round in the first. I don't see how he is going to go beyond 3 rounds but Strickland is MW champ at the moment so he probably wins that.

Yeah sucks for Alex but he's the type to always go for something and dare to be great. He'll beat the shit out of Topuria.

Chimaev has Conor level cardio. If Strickland gets it to the 3rd round he wins

Do yourselves a favourite and watch the UFC 298 presser

10/10 performance by volk
I was wondering about the Volk mindset heading into this fight.

If you were to place a bet based on body language, you'd run to the TAB tomorrow and lump a lot of cash on Volk.
He handled that press conference like an absolute pro....but it was his genuine calm and ease that absolutely sold me that he is heading into this fight with his head on straight. If anything.....I think Topuria looked very edgy to me after that.

Tricky for Topuria being that it was in English but he got made to look like a fool.

Topuria is talking the talk but I'm not convinced he believes his own words.

You have to be wary of volk after that knock out but at this stage I'm willing to forgive given the circumstance

Yair was far more dangerous imo. If Volk is even at 80% of what he was in that fight he'll school him

Well topuria backed up his words and that was tough to watch.

Volk should never have taken that 2nd Islam fight.

Probably should retire now
Sadly, I think this is the end of the line as far as being the champion again. When a fighter has had a couple of clean ko's against him the way Volk has.....the vast majority of fighters don't properly come back from that. In his mind, there would have to be some regrets over choices surrounding his last two fights.

A great fighter who has shown signs of being superhuman in his career.

If it was based purely on Volk's last fight, I wouldn't award a rematch as the win by Topuria was very conclusive. But, his stellar record as well as being a company man throughout his career has absolutely earnt him a rematch should he want one. In Alex's case, I'd be absolutely cautious in accepting one though as one more loss is basically the end. He looked a different Alex to the superhuman who got out of Ortega's chokehold and took Makachev to five brutal rounds.
