The most boring season ever?

Early Feb and the five biggest leagues in the world are all but done and dusted.

In England, Man U leads by 12 points over City, as does Barca over Atletico in Spain. Bayern's lead in the BL is even greater (15 points) over 2nd place Dortmund.

Even in Serie A and Ligue 1, Juve and PSG's main challengers have recently been falling over themselves and both have opened up comfortable leads.

Have we ever seen such a lopsided season before in all the big leagues?

Pretty good race on in the EPL for the top 4 though

I doubt that too many Spurs or Arsenal fans would be finding it boring...

I was referring more to title races.

But yes the race for UCL spots is well and truly alive in England, Spain and Italy.

You do realise Chelsea are only a point ahead of Spurs right?
Everton are also very much in the mix too.

I guarantee you not one United fan is finding this season boring after the way we lost the league last season. I further venture that the league is target #1 for both fans and manager.

@pennywise: in what universe do league and cup titles not matter? Has the Barca bandwagon become that much of an armchair ride that only the CL can excite their fans anymore?

As other posters have pointed out CL spot is still interesting (although I don't think we'll make it). Also the FA cup is still very open with all the non-PL teams still in.

Not at all.

some people just don't understand there are more than two teams in a league.

The point I was trying to make was that breakaway winners in all the Big 5 leagues is unprecedented and that all the title races are boring this year. I guess we were spoilt last season.

Yes, of course they matter. However There's only ever 2 or 3 clubs ever in the hunt for the title in all of the major leagues.

It's time for a European Super League, the best of the best playing each other week in and week out. Then with the big money clubs out of the way the Evertons, Athletic Clubs and Udineses of the world can start fighting it out for championships rather than Europa League spots. We will then not only see the best players playing against the best players each and every week but we also so competitive leagues around the world that aren't done and dusted by February. It won't happen because of TV money and all, so its back to waiting for CL fixtures all year round to see anything competitive.

Really? So we'll never see Norwich beating United or Southampton knocking off City? Your suggestion won't work anyway. The Super League will end up resembling any other league, with 4 or 5 top teams and the rest fighting over scraps or staving off relegation back to national leagues. The best players will all move to the pointy end teams, and the other teams won't be so super any longer. The only thing that will ever make the top leagues properly competitive will be a salary cap, which will never, ever happen.

So your answer to make leagues better is to take the best teams out of it?

Yes Osasuna may do better in La Liga, but without Barca or Real who will actually care?

Also the charm of Real vs United is it does not happen 2 or three times a season.

Plus you would still get the same 3 or 4 clubs competing for the title.

So for those reasons, i'm out. ;-)

Serie A is definitely alive and kicking. A win for Lazio and Inter tomorrow will mean 9 points between 1st and 5th. Napoli can cut Juve's lead to 2 points with a win tomorrow.

You make a valid arguments for cons against it. I never said my idea was perfect, but it's better than whats currently on offer.

But your first line has me baffled. You would rather watch United and City play the likes of Southampton and Norwich so maybe you might see an upset in one of the next 20 times they play each other? I would rather watch Barca, Real, Atletico, Juve, Milan, Inter, Roma, PSG, Bayern, Borussia, United, City & Chelsea play each other week in, week out.

Yes I know. And PSG inexplicably lost to a team placed 18th so their lead is down to 3. I still maintain though that both Juve and PSG will win their titles.
