I think the sport that the NRL should worry about is (soccer/football)
that being the A League.

What the NRL should do is start fresh in season 2010.

How would they do this you may ask?

This is how I would do it:

> Close down the league

> Combine/Merge NRL-ARL-QRL-CRL-NSWRL

> Start a new comp known as the NSW Metro Cup.

> Teams Being

1. St.George Dragons
2. Newtown Jets
3. Manly Sea Eagles
4. Cronulla Sharks
5. Canterbury Bulldogs
6. Balmain Tigers
7. Parramatta Eels
8. Penrith Panthers
9. Easts Roosters
10. Souths Rabbits
11. Norths Bears
12. Wests Magpies

These teams will be feeders to all NSW,Canberra & Melb teams



The New NRL will be as follows:

1. North Queensland Cowboys
2. East Coast (a team from the Sunshine Coast)
3. Brisbane Broncos
4. Gold Coast Titans
5. Coffs Habour or Port Macquarie team
7. Newcastle Knights
8. Central Coast
9. Illawarra or Wollongong team
10. Sydney City
11. West City (a team in West Sydney)
12. Canberra Raiders
13. Melbourne Storm
14. Adelaide
15. Perth
16. Auckland Warriors
17. Wellington (NZ needs 2 teams to help take over union)
18. NT/PNG team

All the Qld,Perth,NT/PNG & Adelaide teams will have feeder clubs in the Qld Cup

As for Auckland & Wellington thier feeder clubs will be from the NZ comp

> State of Origin stays the same best out of 3 games played mid week


> Anzac Test played on Anzac Day Week


2 x Friday Night Games

maybe a AFL style top 8 final series

The critical problem with people suggesting an A-League style revamp is that the NRL, despite the media hysteria in some parts, isn't in the dire straits that the NSL found itself in during the first half of this decade and even earlier. The NRL still has strong commercial and media backing - all bar one club has a naming rights sponsor, the code is all over TV and radio etc...

In summary - stupid idea, won't work unless the NRL starts to falter and sponsors drop off like flies - and that's not on the horizon, at least not yet.

The whole idea is ludicrous but Team No. 6 on his list has real merit, I think that team should be the next expansion side in the league for sure.

Apart from the lack of money to support it, you do realise that Port Moresby and Darwin are about 1,800 km apart. This is like having a combined Brisbane-Hobart team.

Sorry. My attempt at a Broncos fan's fantasy NRL. No room for a club outside Brisbane. Except Sydney, so they can campaign to have it killed off.

Come to think of it, it's funny that some Brisbane fans dream of shrinking back to the old Brisbane comp - the same one they jettisoned to follow the Broncos!

The biggest loser? Sadly, the Parra contingent will probably be voted off first. Either that, or the ex Dogs rep players that went to the Roosters ;-)
