We are making up the numbers. We try really hard but we cannot beat top 8 sides and that right there tonight is why bomber will not be our coach next year.
The stories have been leaked all week to counter the #voteforbomber brigade who have been trying to gain momentum.
The counter from inhouse was that he cant recruit the necessary names to get top 4.
Whether hes the best coach in the world or not if he cannot get us a better roster he will go because this mob are just not good enough.
its that simple.
Townsend

I'll stop there. But this list is so 5 years ago.

We are at least 2 players short.
2 marquee players short.
To top the leaderboard you need a
Munster and pappy
Cody and latrell
Kikau and lulei
Teddy and keary
Big guns.
Big guns that win games.
Big games.
Against top 8 sides.

Whos our best player?

Did anyone else know at 10 nil and 18-4 we were not going to win. The better team...the team who always looked like scoring..the team making big metres - that wasnt us.

There were two things which cost us the game tonight. There were many other things - but the main two:
1. Our backpedalling defence. No idea what the plan is here but whilst the rorts are rushing to the advantage line to pressure the ball carrier, cut down our time and halt our progress for the set to 40 metres - we in return stand, wait and backpedal as they make 80 metres up the park. We give their ball players all the time they wish.
How or why bomber doesnt address this has me totally pharked.
2. We are dumb. Nobody in our team has any football smarts. Maybe Tracey and Brayley - and Woods is smart enough to never get hurt - but the rest...
In the first 10 minutes there was a highway down walkers side. There were points there all night. We were 10 nil up from running at and through this guy who weighs 70 kgs. But then...once we work out this little pot of gold our shit for brains halfback decides the way to play was go to their rightside for most of the night.
So rather than cripple the kid - we give him a break so he can come back at the death with 2 matchwinning plays to bury us.

Better team won.
Smarter team won.

That defensive style has been in use for 10 years. The only difference is the old hard merkins used to be able to handle that.

New game with new rules requires a fast moving defensive line

Yeah for the Sharks. Have been a two step up and wait defence for as long as I remember

it needs to change. We look much better pressuring the attackers

The reality is Chad townsend will not take us any further in this competition then what he has the past 2 seasons. He was lucky to be a part of the 2016 team with Maloney, Barba etc. he had his best season that year but still got carried by a team full of stars.

the sooner John Morris realises that he is not up to it the better for his future coaching career. If he doesn’t realise it and continues to defend him then I can’t feel sorry for him when he doesn’t get renewed.

Chad has become a flat track bully. Against a shit team like the cowboys he goes ok for his standard, but look at his form against the three top 8 teams this year.

canberra - single handedly cost us a chance of winning the game from shit goal kicking. Everyone that follows cronulla knows he can’t handle pressure situations. Even John Morris didn’t want him to go for the 2.

parramatta - don’t let the fact we didn’t have a bench fool you. At 10-4 with 20 minutes to go we actually had a chance to win that game or at least apply some pressure, only for a shit house kicking game and zero game management from one of our most experienced players and leaders townsend. Yeah he put a few hits on in defence and had a red hot crack. No one is doubting his effort, but as a halfback he doesn’t have the skills to get us home.

roosters - did one of his kicks hit the grass? What about the sweeping play to Kennedy for the 15th time in the second half? I bet the roosters didn’t see that coming. When we had the ball with 25 mins to go on their line we either needed to score or get another repeat set and we could have ended the game there and then. Where’s the game management? Do you see Luke Keary, jarome Hughes etc these types of players from the obviously more professional clubs laughing and trying to get under the skin of players that are clearly better then them rather than focusing on getting the job done for the team.. nope. You see them put the foot on the throttle and get their team home. There was no need for Chad to rush in on crichton, they had plenty of numbers there already to cover it, only Chad had been having a running war of words with him and guess who had the last laugh.. the sam Walker miss. Don’t get me started. Radley absolutely gave it to Chad afterwards, it was actually good to see because God knows our coach and no one involved in the club appear to have the balls to tell him how it is.

then after almost single handedly losing us the game, he has the hide to agree to be interviewed on Foxsports with all the confidence in the world. Show a bit of passion and tell them to get f**ked when they ask you for an interview and to ask someone else. He should be filthy that him and his team have just thrown away 2 points in the blink of an eye.

Unfortunately for us, at the moment there is no one better. It hurts to say it, but he is the best we have. Trindall ain’t the answer. Tracey isn’t either. In a couple of weeks though, Morris has a choice. Johnson/Chad or Moylan/Johnson. I’d like to think he has seen enough in the last 3 years to roll the dice with the latter, but I doubt it. Especially after his comments last night when he was asked if he’d given it any thought. Chad wasn’t even mentioned, it’s like his spot is guaranteed and this is the problem. Chad knows it doesn’t matter how shit he plays, because he is a good trainer, a local junior and doesn’t have any off field issues he has no worries. Unfortunately for Morris this will probably spell the end to his coaching career at least at cronulla.

I post this full well knowing I’ll probably cop it from Frenzy and his private messaging school yard cool kid Chad defending brigade. about time you discover your own opinion rather than being told what to say by that jerk.

Could not agree more, a drovers dog could have been the no 7 in 2016 and we win.
Robson would have been just as good

Yep, if there is any consistent criticism of the team over the last couple of years that is valid, it’s their lack of smarts.

Chad is a role player. If he has defined responsibilities to organise, he can be effective. In 2016, he was the number 4 spine player with Maloney and Ennis dominant and Barba the strike weapon. He had a contained role and the spine unit worked well.

At present, he is the dominant spine player with Johnson out and Brailey and Kennedy young. He does 90% of the tactical kicking, goal kicking and organising. Its a bigger role than his skill set really warrants. He has played well against the ordinary teams, but not well enough against the better teams.

With the right squad balance, he can be effective. He is mid range half not the dominant half in a top 4 team.

He is a no 4 in the spine so basically any half can fit that role

Craigie - l just posted pretty much what youve got here in another thread before reading this. Youve gone into much more detail about the hack at 7.
Spot on.

The old argument is theres noone better.
There is.
Who?
Thats bombers job.
Langy took a winger in Preston and found a guy who would rise to the challenge. Who wanted it enough to make it happen.
Hats off to Langy.
Bomber wants to save his job?....do what top flite coaches do and solve the problem.
Work out what the solution is and put it in place because l am frigging over watching this never has been ply his ineffectiveness week after week.

If Flanno doesnt pull him out of that canberra game we are still on zero premierships.
That game was going where last nights was.
A close loss against a top 4 side.
The more chad tried the worse he got. The decisions got stupider. He just is not to that level.
Yep...he is a flat track bully and even then not a threatening one.

Even his goalkicking.
Against top 8 teams this year I think 4/9
Against bottom team something like 13/13.
Add to this in his whole career at sharks just 1 yes 1 40/20.
Brailey has 2 already

I didn't know we would lose but was concerned when Radley came back on after a long rest. I think I mentioned this in the gameday thread. He had an enormous impact when he came back and this is what brought Walker to life and got the target off his head.

Yep. In the mid 20teens when we won that comp our defense was part of our attack pretty much. Teams were struggling to make 40-50 metres a set and subsequently the defence set up the next set at handover.

I wonder if Morris’ inability to recognise Chaddy’s imperfections are what ultimately cost him the job.

I honestly think that he will be a career assistant coach, as he doesn’t have the guts to make the big calls.

Well Fifita has been basically punted. Told Moylan to pull his finger out and get himself right or would find himself in reserve grade.

No one has ever looked like punting Chad. Flanno never dropped him. And the board / football department / recruitment obviously signed off on Chads 2 year player option.

Can’t put Chad and his Teflon like existence only on Morris.
