It's that time of year again. The Roosters are dominating, so the same ol' clueless mofos are coming out whinging, and think that the only way we can achieve success is by rorting the cap.

The latest ignoramus is Slothfield in today's telecrap
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...n-nrl-salary-cap/story-fni3fh9n-1227050745642

Of course, his reasoning is flawed.
Firstly he fails to take into account third party deals. Every club has access to this and it is not rorting the cap

Secondly, when he (and his supposed coach mate) sat down to calculate our worth, they would be basing their estimates on current worth, but this is not what they were worth when they signed their contracts. Take Toops for example. When he signed, he couldn't hold down a regular starting spot in Parra's NYC team, and thought that being a fringe NSW cup player would be as far as he would go. Yet Slothfield is basing his estimate for him on the fact that he's a premiership winning and NSW representative player who has a bright future.

And of course, he pulls out the comparisons to shitty teams. Just because Canberra can't attract good players doesn't mean that all clubs should be judged by that standard.

We heard the same bollocks last year. Dimwitted fools looked at our big off season purchases and assumed that dodgy dealings were going on. But if they understood how the game works, they'd realise that it was legit. For 2012 we signed Mortimer, but let go Todd Carney, Phil Graham, Dan Conn, Kane Linnett, Nate Myles and Jason Ryles. This gave us a lot of cap room for when 2013 rolled around. And of course we then let go of Braith Anasta, Justin Carney, BJ Leilua, Mose Masoe, Sammy Perrett and Tom Symonds. Factor in the increase in salary cap and we could easily afford to sign SBW, Jenko, Maloney and LOD.

Fact is, Easts are not rorting the cap. We just manage it well. Don't be hating if your club is incompetent.

I would doubt the roosters are over the cap. After the storm scandal and the broncos scare, which club would be silly enough to even try?

You're giving Slothfield what he wants mate, relevance.

Just ignore him, he's a complete waste of space and deserving of catching the flesh eating disease.

Chook.

his Sharks got the spoon, Carney leaves after bringing the game into disrepute, the Sharks will be forever tainted as drugs cheats and then there was the fiasco with the illegal payment to Gallen. Karma is coming his way

Easts do have a few massive advantages. Some are simply in built like being based in arguably the most desirable location for young men in Australia. Others are down to their good work. I mean obviously there is more third party money in Sydney than Canberra, Newcastle or north Queensland thus making the system ludicrously unfair but the roosters do manage to dominate Sydney for third party deals. Brisbane have the second largest rugby league city in the country to themselves.

I mean obviously I hate third party money because it absolutely screws the raiders but I am also 100 percent sure the roosters ain't cheating.

your an idiot , if you ghet rid of 12 players you still need 12 players more players wages in your top 25.

Its not cap management its TPA's same shit as the broncos.

Accept you are both a supporter of a cheating club and a troll.

Well we got off, apparently clubs can withdraw larges swathes of cash from their leagues club and pay it back when they're under investigation so it's all good.

So... yeah. Not really a huge disincentive.

It's not cheating if its within the rules. The nrl should publish each clubs total third party deals tbh. I don't see why that's kept secret. Then we can see how "even" the comp is.

3rd party deals are supposed to be insulated from the club other wise they would be counted towards the cap

Publishing the $$$ player x gets from company y will never happen.

Never going to have access to overseas deposits or retirement guarantees, if it wasn't for a couple of dumbarses in the last few years the naive amongst us would still be happily waking up with dick in hand.

The sooner clubs are made to concede coaching is preferential to poaching the sooner we'll be able to discard the placebo salary cap

It's stupid to refer to the salary cap as any sort of limit on the talent levels one club can have, given the 3rd party situation. I would be surprised if Roosters players only earn 8 million a year but that doesn't mean they are rorting the cap.

Obviously the NRL can't publish what individual players earn, however they could publish what each club has registered with the NRL. They admit to 10 million registed in total. This still wouldn't give the whole picture but would give a fair indication of how "equal" the comp really is. There isn't really any incentive for them to do so though, it would likely only harm the brand.

The NRL has no jurisdiction over third party deals as they are completely separate from a clubs finances.

The only way the NRL could view what the deals provide is to get access to the players tax records. And even then, what does it matter if SBW gets paid 2mill to promote Nike or Uncle Tom's Pie Shop? How do they police that if Nike or Uncle Tom are happy to pay for that exposure?

Chook.
