In racing parlances they are chalk n cheese
Bird is a week to week proposition ie injury prone
Hasnt produced consistent performances for ages although now has his old trainer to try and get him to produce his best
De Belin , while older missed 2 years and still has plenty to offer esp in defence..
Thought along with Lawrie , were our best last season
I think Bird can consider himself lucky to still be employed by the Dragons, proof was in the pudding when he last resigned with us and how much interest there was from other clubs. Plus he wanted more than what we were offering not to mention his ridiculous comments about saints fans. DeBelin imo is vastly better for our team than Bird.

But who is going to take Bird? If we're offering up a swap we also have to be realistic about who the possible options are to send that way. My point was more that we have someone who can cover de Belin's role in the team pretty well, and that if nothing else Bird can offer a point of difference in that position off the bench. With that, you've also just gained AFB and in my opinion we'd still clearly be a massive winner in that trade.

Dearden isn't an organiser either. He's a ball runner. Townsend does all the organising for the Cowboys.
Dearden is an organiser with a running game. He's taken a backseat because he's learning off Townsend who's whole game is organisation so he doesn't have to focus as much on that in his team. It's not his role necessarily. But he was always an organiser with a running game coming through at Brisbane, and has shown in games that he can organise and do it well. On the big stage in Origin a year or two ago, still very young, he controlled the game well and was noticeably dominant.

who can cover de Belin's role
My point put so succinctly was why would the club want any one to cover for Jack, least of all Bird, as he aint going anywhere. The guy almost always tops the weekly tackle count, makes 100m on average, often slips into receiver to add spark to our back line, above all he offers inspiration. Bird on the other hand is a weak defender, rarely runs 100m, crabs across field because he has no idea how to organize a play, all he offers is exasperation. Bewildering he is permitted to rob this club of $600K.

I think you've confused who I said could play the de Belin role. I said Toby Couchman can play that role, whilst Bird can come off the bench and add a point of difference in that position. I wouldn't be so sure de Belin isn't going anywhere either, you do know that he's off contract and he and his management (per reports) have had to approach the club about getting extension talks going? I've not seen de Belin add spark to our backline since maybe 2018 either, he's become predictable with ball in hand and needs to tuck the ball under his arm a bit more often than he does in my personal view. Defensively he's great, but Couchman is pretty good too.

To me, Bird has not been anything extraordinary for the club and should not be used as a replacement/back-up for JDB who i have a lot more time for. However in saying this, he did do well way back when he played for Flanagan at the Sharks and helped to win the Grand Final in 2016 with a broken arm I think?

I'd like to see how Flanagan uses Bird and how he manages him. He could turn out better than he did under Hook, which really isn't saying much as Hook cruelled a lot of our players.

For mine Bird is a lock and shouldn't be moved around the team,
That phrase can easily confuse. You did clarify later but I did not read that far.

The impression I heard from Jack in a interview as to why he had
been put on the market was of someone that did not intend going anywhere. His goal has always been to be a one club player. Still perhaps Flanagan has other ideas. If we do lose him be a big gap to fill, does Couchman or anyone else have big enuff boots.

I haven't heard that we need to offer up a swap for ABB. Given that Luii may be an option for us to buy, why wouldn't the Warriors just buy someone with the AFB cap, e.g. Luki?

The longer this wait goes on, the more likely we miss our targets. But I remain confident we will get:
AFB - prop
Tracey - Fullback
Deardon - Five-eighth

Any other recruits will be depth players and should be local juniors.

1. Tracey
2. Locaal junior
3. Suli
4. Lomax
5. Ravalawa
6. Dearden
7. Flannagan
8. AFB
9. Hunt
10. Molo
11. Couchman
12. Su'A
13. De Belin

14. Liddle
15. Lawrie
16. BMM
17. Bird - if he is fit, M Molo if Bird is not fit

If they are all super fit, and I believe they will be, then we will see a much different (winning side) in 2024.

I’m hoping JDB will improve a bit under Flanno with a simplified and focused lust of expectations
