The Rumours Thread

As long as the Fegais maintain a positive frame of mind and master the current defensive structure they have a chance of playing first grade this year.

Inevitably our squad will sustain injuries.

So they must be ready with a next man up attitude.

Both of the Fegais seem to lack self confidence.

The coaching staff could make all the difference.

Injuries, poor defensive structures and even worse coaching have sent the boys backwards.

At times on this Forum, the negative perceptions of some players can almost get personal. Sometimes I think it's forgotten that we are talking about real people. At least in relation to comments on Matt Feagai some have recognised that 2022 was a good season for him. I just wanted to add that I met him, his partner and young baby in the Aldi carpark in Wollongong about mid season and were happy to chat to me. A lovely young couple with a dear little baby.

I for one will be interested to see how he performs at full back. I wish him well.

I hope that's not directed at me. I spend more time on here defending players than anything else and if I do have a shot at any player I comment on their abilities or lack of on the field giving stats and examples of particular games to back it up. I don't make personal attacks on players or others on the forum like some. I've had a go at the Feagais - 2 out of our 30 - who I think aren't up to it, that's it and if others on the forum want to debate it, I debate it, calmly and politely, that's what most people on forums do, some level headed debate without calling people names or accusing half the posters on here of being stupid or clowns or partial to f**king chips, whatever that means.
I'm sure Feagai has a lovely family, loving parents and adorable kids, I don't go there and I wouldn't. I also wouldn't equate calling them useless, in footy terms obviously, as a personal attack, it's not, it's a footy forum comment that no-one should take seriously or get all emotional about.

Edit: If you think I'm bad, pop over to the "Hunt asked for a release" thread. Maybe you can roll out Ben's family over there and try to save him from that most epic of pile ons. 92 pages ffs.

Guilty as charged your honour!

I would like to proffer the "He was acting like an asshole" defence.

The Allan ACL injury opens the door for Matt Feagai for sure.. he will sort of play the role Moga did previously.. only hes much younger and more skillful without all the leg injuries Moga had.

I mentioned before the Feagais are big boys, and as they grew they sort of lost speed and acceleration in the process, but if Flanno can get Matt defending properly, he certainly could be injury backup on the wing.. I think our game this year is going to rely on a defensive wall.. and Tuipulotu seems very unreliable, and SFinau is still very young himself.

That lack of acceleration I think means 2nd row wont be a wonderful experience either.. big enough for sure.. but also it wont be at our club, we are flush in that position.

No matter how I think about it, 2024 is the Feagais last year at the Red V (esp with Allan being signed for 2025), but big chance Matt could see plenty of 1st grade before he leaves.

When Hook joined he pointed out that Feagai was the most impressive of all the juniors which included Bud, Sloan and Amone. He really liked him a lot and gave him a heap of chances like he did Mbye, McCullough etc. No matter how bad they played he kept picking them so Matt being in that group probably did not have to do as much to earn a spot in FG. He probably followed Hooks instructions unlike others like Bud that may have challenged Hook hence why Bud was on the outer. Now that Hook is gone he will actually get better under Flanno as he will have to perform to earn the jersey and push him more to play to his potential.

This has turned into the Feagais weren't so bad thread - fitting that it's actually the rumours thread then because talk of their "talent" falls firmly into the rumours realm.
The Feagais were terrible last year and not much better the year before. I honestly can't think of a worse pair of players in the entire NRL last year. Max is a total write off, even Hook knew that and Matt got a gig because we really had no-one else ready to step in (although we could have risked almost anyone for the same result or maybe better). Slow, stupid, totally lost in defence. Every week. There's some players you can argue performed only as well as they were coached like Lomax for example but the Feagais don't fit that category, no redemption for them I'm afraid. Cut them loose asap and go for speed and at least a little smarts. Please.
With what is coming through the grades, they certainly wont be here next season, you can tag BMM to that as well, I'll be very surprised if they are.

DRAGONS YOUNG GUN CAUSES A STIR

My item last week about Dragons SG Ball Cup speedster Jesse Williams scoring seven tries in the opening three rounds of the competition has certainly created a stir.

Two rival clubs have let it be known that they are interested in chatting to the 18-year-old, who comes off contract at the end of 2025.

Under NRL rules, the clubs can't talk terms with Williams until this November.

That gives the Dragons nearly nine months to get the prolific youngster under lock and key on a long term deal.

If they don't, the number of clubs chasing Williams will only grow.

It's the Mole, so take it with a grain of salt.

I agree with you Dragonsteve2, but we are not criticizing his family or his personal life and they should remain totally of limit. But when you are an NRL player and putting yourself out there earning some big dollars your performance is always going to be under review, by everyone. Its unfortunate but its the nature of the game, same as Hook and Hunt, I'm sure they are really good guys as well.

I said in another thread we need to lock these juniors down and very soon, we also have the impending new team joining the NRL at some stage thus adding further pressure on with big dollars.

John Asiata looking to come back to the NRL. At age 30 I think he has more to give. Great player with plenty of skill. He would be a great pick up for Saints and potential halves/hooker back up. He can play in the halves and the forwards. WWOS say he is coming off contract this year.

FORMER COWBOYS’ NRL RETURN (From Foxsports website)
John Asiata is reportedly eyeing a return to the NRL, with three clubs keen on his services after a stint in the Super League.
The 30-year-old last played for the Broncos in Australia in 2021 and featured 128 times for the Cowboys between 2014 and 2020.
Asiata, who can play in the forwards and in the halves, has spent the last two seasons with the Leigh Leopards in England.
However, according to WWOS, Asiata is coming off contract this year and wants to return to Australia.

Don't tell me Aldi had babies on special in the center isle.

and even more, there’s a feeling that the more you pile crap on them and bad mouth them the more your correct!
if somebody disagrees, you just shout louder ;)

why isn’t it enough to say what you think? And let others have their own opinion.

have a great night guys :)
Indeed. The loudest voice in the room is embarrassing enough to witness, let alone the loudest voice in the footy forum.

PS one rumour

I am hearing that head gear will be mandatory in league (for all players) within 5 years
Not debunking the rumour but research shows headgear does little to nothing against brain damage and CTE

Actually - I've probably confirmed the rumour. It is after all, the NRL brains trust were talking about.

Kit 66, I would not make a direct criticism of any posters with the exception of one occasion when Getsmarty was being personally and unfairly attacked despite what he has done for us all over such a long period of time. Yesterday I was genuinely pleased to see that some remembered a pretty good season from Matt F in 2022 when it seemed that the left wing and fullback spots had been fixed. Living in Wollongong I occasionally have the chance to have a chat with the odd player. Josh Kerr and Jordan Pereira were other often maligned players who were great to have a chat with.

In regard to Ben Hunt, he acted most unprofessionally during the SoO period. No argument from me. Yet the Dragons had been his life for 6 years at that point so he suffered much more from the club's ineptitude than us as mere supporters who have the freedom to walk away at any point. Time now that having expressed his willingness to complete his generous contract we get over his desperation to leave and get behind him.

I joined the Forum in July 2016 to try to gain an understanding of just why the once mighty Dragons had fallen so far. Now I could not follow the Dragons without the sharing of supporter grief on the Forum. I have just two complaints - the endless and sometimes intemperate debates that sometimes occur and the way sometimes it becomes fashionable to criticise some players. There's like a tipping point or bandwagon effect so a disappointing player cops increasing criticism and must never be recognised for playing a better game.

Absolutely no intention to have a shot at you as an individual, Kit 66. If what I wrote has caused you offence, I apologise.

All good mate, I was just setting the record straight.
The apology is unnecessary but refreshing, thanks.
