Why in hell would the NRL be worried about Uncle Nick and his bag of tricks? He should be the first to be targeted and not neglected. Why should the NRL bow down to him just because he has money? There should be a handicap on the likes of Politis. He just has too much say and he should shut the eff up. Same goes for the other clubs that has Murdoch's kids pulling their weight for them.

When you have guys like these, there is no possibility for any fairness in the game. It's we want this otherwise we don't provide this - bully tactics.

Sometimes I wonder why people follow the game when there is no fairness allowing for the lower clubs to get better players in say a points system and in our case nabbing our best juniors with juicy offers.

The salary cap isn't working like they wanted it to. All clubs get the same money allocated but somehow some clubs can get more than their share of the better players but still stay within the cap by paying their not so great players quite lower amounts and they are happy with the payment because they play for the likes of Uncle Nick - bullshit!
Unfortunately the salary cap doesn't include any benefits promised post -career. So jobs in the media, off the plan property, etc are used to pay players less in their playing years knowing that they will be earning money after they retire. The salary cap auditor has no way of policing future benefits. Once a player retires money can then be deposited into accounts and the auditors won't be looking.

That's funny "bag of tricks". Did you mean paper bags of tricks?

Well there you go. The haves and have nots. The richer and the poorer. The benefactors and the legatees.

Come on Mr Brucie - do you have a few spare millions to dole out as a form of lump sum payments for the benefit of some players post their playing days at the club?

When players are happy to sign for say 10% less for a top team and want 10% more to sign for a lower team, you are suddenly creating a $2m mismatch between the haves and the have nots which is 3 high class players that can make you a top 8 team.

As others have said, there is no appetite from the top sides to level the playing field which would be expected but it's up to the NRL to do it for the greater good of the game in the long run.

The NRL are getting sick and tired of us Dragons fans giving all and sundry on how we have won 11 premierships in a row and have had bragging rights on this ownership for such a long bloody time that they will be making sure that Penrith keep winning premierships to eventually winning 12 in a row, with winning their 4th title this year for the roll on to their 5th next year and so on.

Only joking!! :)

The top teams would have no say if the NRL made it policy,,,,,Super League anyone :)

Saints were a benchmark team in 2009-2011 so it is possible for Saints to get there again. Roosters employ good coaches to ensure the team is always competitive and have higher expectations unlike the Dragons. They would not have held onto Price, Mary and Hook for as long as Saints did. That was just extremely poor management. Hopefully Flanno can get us back there but it will not be a quick fix.

Can anybody really see the NRL changing the salary cap rules? Never. Why would they. They seem quite content with how it is going. As for salary cap auditors? What good are they. The only way teams were busted in the past was by a whistleblower and not the Auditors. They seem useless. They are overpaid staff with a title that sounds important but do nothing.

We had better players then, too. Not so many dumb-as-dog-$#!+ drongoes, white-ants and whingeing chancers whose paypackets exceed their ability.
Cooper, Gasnier, Hornby, Creighton, Young, Morris, Nightingale, Howard, Scott anyone?!
All it needed was some mongrel forwards and an enigmatic coach.
It'll take more than that now - if it can be done at all.

Where did they come from?

Cooper, Gasnier, Hornby, Creigh, Young, Morris, Nightingale were all developed by the club. They weren't big money signings from other clubs. This has to be our recipe. Develop internally. Be patient. Look at Penrith and Melbourne.

That is our future and we should grab it tightly and not let any players go who have the abilities that make great and loyal first graders.

Well, if Flanno signs RFM, Eisenhuth, Leilua (all unwanted by their clubs) and plays them over the Couchmans, they will have to go elsewhere to get their opportunity. This week we'll play against Garrick. Remember him?
