I'd take a Wighton and Dufty swap and throw Wighton in the centres.

Wighton would be an amazing centre. Always thought that was his best position.

I wouldn’t mind Jack Wighton , but I would still be keeping Matt Duffy and you can throw in Alex Whamsley for good measure - he might just be able to bring back big Mose Masoe with him , the bloke owes us a season or two ! :zipper_mouth:

Ill bite... the old warrior Mose Masoe, how many games did he play again for us at NRL?... :(..did he even play a trial at NRL level for us in those 2 gala years?

It’s funny how some folk were:

1. wanting Nightingale to retire, saying that age 31 he was over the hill.

2. saying recruiting an aging Brett Morris (age 32) would be a retrograde step in the wrong direction.

And yet....

3. are satisfied to acquire a 31 year-old Hayne at the expense of a much younger Dufty.

And of course...

4. plenty of folk celebrated Graham’s (aged 32) in lieu of Packer who is again younger.

Paradoxes all over the place!

BLMO1 the answer is 0 - zilch - none in the top grade . The main reason that I was disappointed was that the Dragon pack through a lack of big forwards ( every man and his bluudy dog was a 2nd rower come prop ,) was being belted all over the park in those years and his mere size would had at least given us a bit more strength in the scrums .

But of course he injuries crueled any chance he had of resurrecting his career , however we certainly have size and mongrel there now days , thank goodness .

Nightingale was too slow. Brett Morris is still fast. Morris would have been a stop gap solution. How about I put it to you this way. Brett Morris is way better than Nightingale.

Do you know whose brainstorm that was to have a pack of lightweights believing agile mobile forwards was the way forward based on their perception of the game.
I heard it on radio Doust interviewed on 2SM talkin Sport, at the time he was working with Young as recruiting bosses and Steve Price as the gullible coach.

I long for the day BJ comes home to play with his brother!
Hayne
Mann
BJ
Lomax
Pearson
Widdy
Hunt

get that up ya!~!!!! GO DRAGONS!!!
Joey Leilua will not return to the Dragons. After he signed with the Roosters all those years ago, he was dropped like a bad habit by the club, which left a bitterness with him.

How about I put it to you this way; Hayne would only be a stop gap solution for Dufty at fullback.

A couple of other points:

1. Nightingale was never blessed with speed.

2. comparisons with a left winger (Morris) and a right one (Nightingale) isn’t as straightforward as it seems.

I know that Hayne would only be a stop gap solution for Dufty at fullback, but if I was coach, I wouldn't be playing Hayne at fullback. I would be playing him at centre. Hayne would be a stop gap solution at centre. I would keep Dufty at fullback. We would have a lot more fire power with Hayne and Lomax as our centres instead of Aitken and Lafai. Hayne at centre for 2 years and then hopefully Marsters will be more than ready to take Hayne's centre position or we would have to recruit a new centre. Dufty may not be the complete finished product, yet, but I would still have him at fullback over 8 or 9 other club's fullbacks.

I know Nightingale was never blessed with speed, but then he got even slower, he had to go. He definitely would have been the slowest winger in the comp. He would have been one of the slowest players at our club. Who would you back in a race between Nightingale and Lawrie? lol Do you think there would have been any other clubs interested in signing Nightingale? lol There were obviously others clubs interested in Brett Morris, besides us. Brett Morris always was better than Nightingale. Brett Morris is one of the best wingers I have seen over the last 37 years or so.

I think it is fair enough to compare left and right wingers. lol But if you care to elaborate on how comparisons between left and right wingers isn't as straight forward as it seems, I am interested to see view.

The thing with Nighty is that he was never fast but was always a great finisher.
His inability to finish last year and to a degree the previous year was also due to the fact that the centres gave him nothing to finish thus highlighting the real issue with our centres.
No doubt IMO that Lafai & Aitken will again be the centres so therefore you have no option but to go for an abundance of speed and some bulk on your wings to assist with kick returns and being able to chase in defence.
For me Nighty's defensive brain snaps (probably due really slowing down and panicking) were the major issues for why it was time for him to go.
Lack of hight in defending kicks was also becoming a more constant problem as the opposition often had 6' plus x 100kg plus players marking him.
