I think he’ll be fighting it out with one of the Couchman boys for his backrow spot. Important to have 2 people competing for every position. Presumably Egan will be pushing Su’a for the left edge.

In saying that from the little I’ve seen of Halangahu so far he looks like one of the most effective forwards we’ve produced in a very long time so I wouldn’t put it past him to have a break-out season next year and we’d better be ready with the big bucks if he does.

There’s also Nick T so will be interesting to see how he develops.

I think Toby and/or ryan will be bench impact Though not sure any of them are really starting front rowers who will give us 180m per game. Though in saying that I don’t think Kerr starts either .

so where does that leave us with our current starting pack?

Luch as mentioned above may move into the front row though late on in games his sideway movement will get caught out.

Is Egan even ready round 1 , if not Luch will play edge as Hanagalu probs a year away still but will be pushing to get a bench spot

Really need and hope we have signed a front rower esp with Lawrie and guler on the books.

With Klemmer non re signing, does this mean we have signed a forward?
Because not sure a forward back or Kerr lawrie guler make teams scared
LPT TOBY COUCHMAN makes 5 props
SUA , LEILUA , EGAN , NT , HALANGAHUE , RYAN COUCHMAN , 6 2nd row
STEWART lock
COOK , LIDDLE hooker / utility perhaps KF
As long as LAWRIE and GULER are only back up it's a pack that's just going to get better with experience . There's 16 of the 30 spots if you include TRAIL i'm not sure if he's top 30 or development . Probably have room for 3 more hopefully at least 1 top of the range prop and a another back up lock and prop. I think these kids might put the wind up a few of the older packs and shock a few doubters .

That's a lot of front row youth and no real enforcer.

Not sure that will get the job done yet, particularly if injuries strike like this year.

Letting Klem go was exactly the right thing to do. He's been offered a 2yr deal with St Helen's, he would not get that here. Unfortunately he's slowed down considerably and doesn't really bend the line, but his full on aggressive face was contagious and I think that's what we remember most.

We did a survey on this forum about moving LL to the middle. The result being a unanimous yes. IMO, that's where he'll play moving forward. A ball playing bench prop, which would be particularly effective when Lids comes on. But bench only, not a starter.

Our middle forward ranks are well stocked with Su'a, Couchman, Egan, Truck and NT just for starters.

Halangahu should start round 1 in my opinion. He proved he's already having more of an impact on games than Leilua, he gets through a lot of work and defends well. He's ready. Yes he's young, but there's no reason to hold him back. As long as he has a good pre-season, which by the looks of him is just about a certainty bar injury, he starts on the left edge for me. You can rotate him to the bench with a few less minutes throughout the season if needed. Leilua can start from the bench and if he doesn't pick up his game, he can shake hands with the cup boys til his contract runs out.

Same with Stewart, he's ready to start, but physically I think he definitely will need a bit of rotation throughout the year. We don't really have a back up lock so this needs to be sorted. You can't expect Hamish to play a full season starting at lock just yet. That's why I'm not against bringing in Elliot, even if it is just for a year.

I think Ryan Couchman can also play Lock. The Couchman’s are very versatile in the forwards. Such an asset
agree i think both can play parts of games and or parts of seasons at Lock, prop and or second row bash and barge role like Luc dos for us

but they are young still and doing incredibly wll in the middle for their age and experience and height/weight etc

definite keepers with how the bleed for the Dragons........well until they dont or they have hit their ceiling and better options

for now happy for me !

Personally, i don't buy into the need for an "alpha prop".

In the end, bluster and posturing is not as important as fitness, skills and game smarts imo.

Jason Nightingale used to do effective first hitups with twists and surges and fast play the balls.

Big Nelson is the perfect example of max bluster and disappointing effectiveness.

If we go into 2026 with a pack of fit, strong athletes and no alpha prop i am all good with that.

The lack of aggressive middles though is why I am pissed we didn’t do enough to keep Latu. Big body and aggressive.
