I don’t agree

We appear to be playing in our 4 halves into game time and then 2027 is the next vantage point to secure the best we can internally or externally as we have done with Atko and LKT so far

Brendan Mcullum ex kiwi cricket captain said that when fighting ur way to the top sometimes u have to play ur players early to gain serious game time against the best so they find away to rise uo to be the best

reason being he said was because sometimes that is ur best option

we have 7 to 8 players we are playing into FG arguably ahead of time for some of them

I think we all know in our hearts and heads that half will be a 2027 at best and or we have unearthed from within via time in NRL in a period we couldnt rival ie 2026

And yet, the Roosters always seem able to sign 2 current origin/rep level players every off season .........Robson and DCE. Even when their squad is already stacked. If the salary cap was working, all 17 squads would be very similar in talent and then the best performed teams would be the ones with more spirit, smarts, desire, strive for improvement type players and coaches.
Unfortunately, only the Roosters, Storm, Broncs, Dogs can offer corporate or media careers after footy.
Seems pretty fxcking stupid that our WIN TV owner can't help out with these types of gigs.

Not having a shot at you but I wouldn’t be taking any advice from McCullum at the moment 😂

I totally agree maestro .. Until the NRL
looks after all clubs instead of the top six
clubs the problem of distribution of talent
will remain. However, our previous
management certainly did not inspire
confidence. It absolutely defies belief that
the big clubs continually purchase elite
players for their under market value.
This should be huge red flags 🚩 for
the NRL to investigate where the rest of
their money will be coming from. How can
big clubs have SO MANY REPRESENTATIVE
PLAYERS compared to the rest. It has been
a problem for a long time. NRL WAKE UP

A combination of the following
1) some clubs have better access to tpa’s- this are inherently inbalancing
2) players will play for less to win, pushes better players to successful clubs and inherently unbalances the league
3) some clubs offer post playing jobs and benefits- again unbalances

the face that there are certain. Clubs that have all 3 benefits, and others none, leads to what feels like a multi-tiered comp.

Still, there are ways, like developing youth can help build a culture where the players want to stay together and thus could build an advantage. Getting the front office right, and facilities right makes the team more attractive to play for. So getting smart helps.

The NRL wont fix it. Each club needs to grow their own "perks" to bump up the contract money. We now have some pretty big hitters who need to come up with new and innovative ways to give marquees more. If you just concede and give up and choose to stop thinking of new ways, then you'll keep delivering the same results. Our club management have to be insatiable with wanting success and have to try and turn every half interested business / businessman into potential TPA provider. TPAs and pathways are the magic bullet. If Supercars and co. doesn't know this or doesn't know how to improve this for our club, then they need to fxck off and let someone in who can. The Marquees are all going to the clubs that can provide the "extras". If my kid was signing contracts to play NRL, I'd be steering him to the clubs that will provide the extras like, career after footy, interest free loans, an extra 300K per season from a TPA, shares in pubs. The injuries and bruising hits will come to my kid...might as well be set-up for life by playing for Roosters, dogs, Broncs, Storm, etc. Look how many ex-roosters are in the media ..... Anasta, Cronk, Freddy, Fletcher, Keary and DCE will join them soon. This isn't a coincidence, it was promised to get these guys to take "less" to play for the Roosters, thus allowing the Roosters extra stars in their squad

I agree with all of this. The NRL can't fix the 3rd party situation as it wouldn't be legal for them to stop the players from earning money from companies that are not connected to their clubs. So the only way you change things is to get better at it yourself.

Ultimately it comes down to successful businessmen who are Dragons fans wanting to help the club achieve success. I've heard some people say that Twiggy should get involved, why would he be interested in doing that when a) he's already the main sponsor and b) it clearly wouldn't be arms-length from the club and c) he's not a dragons fan.

So the main job of the new CEO and COO is to get out there and sell the brand to the business community in a way we haven't been able to do before. To tell them exactly how the TPA system works and get them to form a group of interested parties like they've done in Brisbane for years. There's no way we will ever be able to compete with the Eastern Suburbs money that pours into the Roosters. I can tell you there are families worth hundreds of millions if not billions connected to that club who are happy to get involved with TPA's it's not just Politis. There's no way we have as many wealthy fans but we can drive that part of our business to be much more successful than it is currently and really give our coaches a chance.

Unfortunately to get all this happening you need a winning football team where players, businesses and managers can see success built on action and not rhetoric, which we don't have currently.

Not true. Gould took over the Dogs from an extreme low and still managed to harness supporter / benefactors. The Roosters and Brisbane were also both active in this area even when their clubs were performing poorly. The fact that we've been shit for 10+ years and yet our supporters are still active on this and other forums tells you that the passion is absolutely there, it just requires organisation into a group who are dedicated to helping the dragons succeed and willing to put their money towards it. Even if it started small it could still make a difference in terms of helping the club sign one player who might've gone elsewhere. It all starts somewhere.

For the salary cap to work it has to go hand in hand with a draft system. The draft got shot down in the 90’s when the Federal Court found that the draft was an unreasonable restraint of trade. From memory, I think Terry Hill led the charge against it. So unfortunately the stronger teams continue to get stronger and the weaker teams continue to get weaker.

As you say maestro, we can’t offer the extras that the Broncos, Storm etc can offer. Third party deals don’t help either.
