SHARKS JOIN RACE TO SIGN PLAYMAKER AS COVER FOR STAR

The Sharks are reportedly eyeing former Warriors and Dragons halfback Ronald Volkman as cover should Daniel Atkinson leave the club. The Sharks locked up halfback Braydon Trindall with a three-year extension, which makes Atkinson’s future uncertain at the club. Cashed up NRL rivals could make a play for Atkinson and he may have to leave the Sharks to get a starting spot. Newscorp reported the Sharks have joined the Manly Sea Eagles and the Parramatta Eels in pursuit of Volkman. The 22-year-old has played five games for the Warriors and one Test for Samoa to date, but hasn’t played NRL since a failed bid to join the Dragons, who reneged on the deal due to a pre-existing injury.Volkman spent the entire 2024 season recovering from a shoulder injury that threatened his career, but is back and ready to resume playing. It is understood that Volkman will decide on his new home in the coming days as he attempts to secure a spot on a Top 30 roster. The Sharks were first linked with Volkman at the beginning of September, but interest in him had cooled before the 22-year-old met with the other two clubs.

God this place is amazing at times.

All of a sudden there are questions about the Couchman twins and whether we keep 1 or 2 as somehow they are so similar.

FMD Ryan has hardly seen any game time so when that happens then some conversation might be needed but at the moment both need to be on our books and developed properly.

I remember only too well the same questions being about the Wynn brothers and how both ended up extremely good players, internationals in fact and instead of having both we ended up with Graham after missing out on Peter who was probably the better of the two.

Re other players in the system coming through they need to bide their time and follow the Couchman's through and get game time at the expense of the planks and ageing players like Lawrie, RFM, BMM, Eisenhuth.

Exactly this. You beat me to it Old Timer. How I would have loved the Wynn brothers at the Dragons. It was never to be. In the Couchman boys we have die hard Dragons fans who haven't been given a decent go yet for the stated reasons. How refreshing to have players who want to play for the Dragons over the 194,396 posts and media articles on Hunt and Lomax in the past week. No doubt there will be same number before a ball is kicked in anger in '25.

You do realise there is way more to a supposedly marquee halfback's game than a statistic like this that is overused and means far less then people think it does?
Can you get back to us with the number of field goals he's kicked for us? I'll give you a hint - Adam Reynolds kicked two more field goals in one game in our SF in 2018 than Hunt has kicked in his whole career. What about statistics on game management? Kicking game? Clutch plays? You see all of these are FAR more important than the "try assists" stat that lazy journalists and ill-informed fans whip out to defend Hunt when they're foolishly describing him as "our best player".
Amazes me that people keep using a stat like this that covers a multitude of Hunt's glaring weaknesses.
Hes also good at running the ball

Hey I want to see him fail as much as the next person

Especially when he is playing against us and he and Lomax have basically said that we are sh*t team thats why
they are happy to go somewhere where they can win a comp.

Glad both of the turncoats are out of our team and not getting our coin anymore.

It's what you will be remembered for once you've hung up the boots. Yeah I saw Hunts comments today that he didn't believe he'd win a comp with the Dragons. He is right. We were never going to win one whilst he was there. Lomax stated again today that he's playing centre at the Eels next year. Well we'll see Zaccy boy. Maybe you will Maybe you won't. Parra's problem now. Good luck Rylsey!

Let's hope the 23rd best centre in the comp does play there as opposed to the Kangaroo winger...
