If you are reffering to the twitter post by Weidler i wouldnt be too concerned.

It doesnt look like theres a line of clubs waiting to sign Gutherson, i dont mind the club doing its due dilligence on this one. We are about to occupy close to 1mil of cap space for the next 3 years to sign Gutho.

A host of players have just come available in the last week. Maybe we could be making a play for another fullback? Kennedy? Papenhuzen?

If Gutho was in hot demand, i would be fuming but that does not seem to be the case. I think this is a ploy from Gutho's management to get the deal done.

The last i heard from a very reliable source is that Gutho was not happy about the commute, this was several weeks ago though.
I agree due diligence is completely fine but once a medical is done I can’t see into why anything would be stalling the negotiations unless something bad has come along re his medicla

The Gutho camp maybe worried about the medical hence the pressure to get it done asap. Saint should take their time on this. If there is someone to blame Gutho it is the Eels for playing you whilst you were busted, and then booting you out after doing so, hence potentially ruining your career. That is a dog act not Saints making sure you are not damaged goods because of it. I like how again Saints will look like the bad guys and Parra get off scott free on this one.

Simple if he doesn't want to commute tell your manager thanks but no thanks and take a deal that suits

We will be right.. no other club has else has a fullback position available.. not for that cash... but I do agree with the sentiments that we need to streamline whatever it is that is taking weeks to finish things that most clubs have wrapped up in days.. maybe its Flannos negotiation style, maybe its staff involved in the process.. maybe its approvals.. I dunno.

But yes im confident we will get Gutho, I would like it wrapped up in the next 24hrs though.. surely we arent arguing dollars and contract lengths yet.. surely.

The other risk is we didnt like something in the medical.. lets pray its not that.. that would be a disaster.

The longer it drags on the chances increase that it will fall through we are the most inept organisation when it comes to negotiations extremely infuriating.

According to you the contract was done just waiting on medical? So what’s the issue then?

Apparently its the third year again and not the value of the 3rd year.
Uuugh ! Here we go again. I would had thought that was the very first aspect of the negotiations - the length of the contract , but apparently not ?

I did mention earlier in the piece that the Dragons should offer him 2 years plus an option for a third in the club’s favour - due to the punishment his body has taken over the years .

I believe that is more than fair and perhaps Gutherson’s agent should be looking at that aspect himself by offering that as a solution to what appears to be a stumbling block to a successful conclusion for both parties .

It is a negotiation. On one hand we already have enough dud three year deals to choke a hippopotamus. On the other hand, Gutho still has a lucrative contract with Parra so he can go back to that and play out 2025 as a bench forward then see who wants him for 2026. His choice.

Or he can come to Saints, get paid THE SAME AMOUNT for 2025, be assured of another less well paid year in 2026 after that, and then - horror of horrors - get an offer for a 3rd year if he is good enough.

It really is hard to see how a two year offer is not good enough for him...unless he has no confidence in how he will perform in 2026.

Flanno is just keeping it real here, gentlemen.

IMO contract is already agreed pending medical. I just think it's a comprehensive medical considering his age, injuries and price.
If something comes up in the medical that requires further / specialist examination it's going to take time to investigate.
So many people frothing over this as if he's the guy that's going to save us and we need to rush it through and give him and his camp anything they want.

100%

I see 2 years for Gutho as a vote of confidence in Sloan and other emerging juniors.

Hell, Gutho can play for us on full freight 2025 (2 Yr contract) then he can be extended or approached by other clubs Nov 1. By then we may be open to release him, Who Knows? But we won't be stuck with 3 years.

It's not like we have zero options at Fullback, Sloan, Allan and Val.

The ball is in our court.

Flanno's court, that is!:p

Ur talking out of your ass, we almost came last , therefore Gutherson was never pushed to play, Parra were more than happy to keep him for his final year. he got the dirts and chose to leave to highest bidder ….. by the way if don’t already know. Gutherson and his grubby agent have played out every contract negotiation the media , pathetic look for a so called leader……parra have looked after him very well, hope do sign him , that will complete ur wooden spoon squad!!!

Have fun when brown and Moses ask out.

You are a lot closer to the spoon than you think big dog. Next year won't be any better

It is what it is
Managers Just put things out in the media if they think it’s gonna benefit their client
No one should be rushing to doing anything to appease fans without doing full due diligence and YEs that includes us who needs good players
But you can’t believe other clubs wrap just many signings up in days
Many don’t get played out in the media like ours
