I know I'm coming off as a bit of a negatvie nancy with some of these recruitment rumours but halfback is such an extreeeeemely important position to get right. Brodie Croft is a proven dud at NRL level. His dummy and run (literally the only weapon he had) worked for a while at the Storm but they were happy to cut him loose, and at Brisbane he was disastrous - he was their halfback when they won the wooden spoon. We gotta stop scraping the literal bottom with these targets. Do better!

I appreciate your perspective, but they didn’t get the spoon because he was half-
Multiple factors such as: too young a squad; talented squad but poor defence; coaching dramas leading to poor cultural environment. Don’t believe you can draw cause and effects towards any one player and the position their or that club finished on the ladder…

Signing Croft would be the most underwhelming signing of all time. FMD this team is run by dead shits

its not happening
he missed the date in his NRL return clause
CEO stated this yest

Dragons are doing a good job of chaos ball keeping everyone guessing

i like the strategy
Flanno playing the game like all others
Your first choice is holding out , so you put it out there another player has emerged as preferred target
A lot of moving parts at the Sharks at present
Paps being keenly chased , with Kennedy likely to be squeezed out
Atkinson getting nervous re his position esp as Sharks have a number of hot halves coming thru as well
Still believe DA is the main target
Could be a major swap deal done for Croft with Rava and Lawrie if they indeed head done that path
Meeting today , so will get some confirmation very soon

Yeh, it is all misdirection. Flanno is playing the various managers against each other. Atkinson has to be the real target. He is a livewire, has played some grade and not fluffed it, won't ask for more than 3 years, will come for $500k, hasn't had his head gassed up by the media, and is young and will do what the coach wants. And if he doesn't work out, well, we can put him back into NSW Cup without everyone saying "but we are paying him a million a year!"

Forget about buying a saviour halfback. Just get someone who can work in a team.

Former Broncos and Storm halfback Brodie Croft is reportedly the new favourite to replace Ben Hunt at the St George Illawarra Dragons.

WWOS’ The Mole reported Croft is now the firm favourite to take over Ben Hunt’s Dragons halfback jersey, with his management trying to get him out of his contract with English club Leeds.

The 27-year-old is a former Man of Steel as the Super League’s best player, but hasn’t played in the NRL since 2021 with Brisbane.

Croft is reportedly keen to return home and would be the best fit of the halves available to the Dragons currently.

Other players on a Dragons hit list include Bevan French, Sharks halfback Daniel Atkinson, out-of-favour Souths youngster Lachlan Ilias and Tigers five-eighth Adam Doueihi.

Dragons coach Shane Flanagan is meeting with his assistant Dean Young this week to assess the options.

WWOS’ sources suggest the Dragons are leaning towards Croft, who struggled when tossed into the NRL as a teenager in 2016 but has come of age in England and developed into a quality halfback.

Croft scored 14 tries in 65 NRL games for the Storm and Broncos from 2016 to 2021, while he has scored 20 tries in 81 games for Salford and Leeds in the Super League.

"Dragons coach Shane Flanagan is meeting with his assistant Dean Young this week to assess the options".

LOL. FFS!
What a stupid comment from WWOS! What they don't own mobile phones?? I'd suggest they'd be talking at minimum on a daily basis!

Hard to believe 'The Mole' when he says Croft is the Dragons main target in the same article he states Young and Flanno are meeting today to discuss the Halves options..
I want to know how he has “come of age” in the SL apart from getting older
His stats are no better than here
Mole these days is well down the pecking order and his sources and info need to be questioned or is it a story pulled out of thin air and a guess to give him something to do.. oh Tony

And everyone knows NRL is a different kettle of fish. Didn't Hastings win a Man of Steel award in SL, comes back to NRL and is literally just another number.

It is a lot easier to break down defences in SL because the talent and systems are just not the same. I'd be more interested in getting Bevan French as a 5/8 because he is unpredictable.

That’s a point re an suitable exchange may motivate Leeds

Rava would kill it in the UK

Croft would be handy at the right price for a 2 year contract

True but I always thought Hastings performance were pretty reasonable. Owned us when we played up in the rain this year.
