Ok. The club has done some dumb things, given, but do you really think they would replace a premiership winning coach in the midst of rebuilding the club with an untried rookie just because his dad is Craig Young?

That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard since the last time some posted this kind of rubbish.

Conspiracy theorists have been posting this kind of rubbish for years now with zero result.

Agree with your thoughts Dragsters , in fact if I may add Dean Young have no true qualifications as a 1st grade coach ( other than when he took the helm after the board sacked Griffin ) .

Of course he was an assistant at the Cowboys , but let’s face facts , he simply does not possess the nouse required to get the Dragons into the semis and beyond .

The fact that daddy ( as good a player that he was in his day ) would like his first born son to possess the title of head coach at the Dragons means jack - shat !

It is the bigger picture that is undoubtedly more important - that being the overall improvement of the team as a whole and thus becoming a contender for the premiership.

Nothing but that should be considered when deciding upon a coach for a our team - the Big Red V !

You should rarely see a relation or friend of someone in a position of power winning out. Usually the best applicant will be the person who has no nepotistic connection.

Leaks suggest who was held accountable and no leaks around D Y.

S F is responsible for many things and the recent interview where he said he wasn’t hands on enough and needs to be much more so this year indicates to me a rather inept approach in some areas.

I say that on the basis that he is a former premiership winning coach and he was also here not so long ago so IMO he should have known how hands on he actually needed to be.

Dean Young took the reins when Mary was given the bullet at the end of 2020. In 2021 he went to the Cowboys as the assistant there until the end of 2023. It was Ryan Carr who acted head coach at the Dragons when Hook got hooked.

I think I'm right if my memory serves me correctly.

But putting that minor issue aside, Dean Young should not be the head coach of the Dragons even if Flanno was to go elsewhere in my opinion.

He said he'd be more hands on.

That could be for a multitude of reasons

1. he's been doing multiple jobs but is aware of some future recruitment within the club (CEO, recruitment officer etc) that will free him up.

2. He is not 100% confident in his assistants

Either way, he wants to stamp his style on the team

I’m with you Hound. I heard Flanno talking about wanting to have more hands on input and no commentary about his support coaches. I sensed he has ideas about how he wants this team to play and is going to work closer to make it happen. Last season he didn’t have as much an option because of the Hunt hog/control factor. It is a very different team and spine for 2025 so things are changing and Flanno is going to lead the change.
Flanno isn’t the perfect coach [there isn’t one], but he is the best we have had since Bennet. Overall he got the team playing better in his first year. Entering his second season he has brought significant positive change to the playing roster and i believe our game strategy will be changed up also. I think he will be more hands on until our assistants fully get what he is wanting to achieve. That is taking responsibility for the team and the results.

IMO Shane Flanigan is the best thing to happen to the club since Wayne Bennett.
I just don’t get how people cannot see it.
2025 is going to be a great season and 2026 I can see us challenging for the top 4.
We are building something special, if you can’t see it yet then time to open your eyes and enjoy the ride.

I can’t imagine that if asked the question of how hands on he would be as head coach that an answer of anything less than 100% would be acceptable.

But by his own admission that is not what we got so IMO we got short changed

TBH I don’t know why he even raised the subject and made the admission.

S F basically admits we should have achieved more and he exhibits / expresses signs of disappointment but you and others find comfort in out achieving what the media idiots said at the start of the year.

If you think I’m a harsh critic now wait til this season gets underway as S F has set an even higher bar by his own volition.

He said we weren’t a spoon side in 2024 so congratulations to him we missed that by some margin well done.

Having two halves who will try to be compliant with Flano's game plans will be interesting. Be nice if they had longer kicking games tho. Maybe Val can help out there.
