Yep, completely agree with all that.
Unless there are mitigating circumstances, we should make the 8 this year, less than that is I failure.
I’m optimistic, today I was talking to a Roosters supporter and expressed why I think Dragons will play finals next season, he was deadset laughing out loud at me. We have little respect at the moment, that’s about to change.
I disagree that not making the 8 is a failure
It will be disappointing but until our front row and go forward has improved I can not see us making the 8, similar to last year finish 10-11th
We have improved in the backs but halves combo will take a few weeks of NRL real games to click
What I do expect is better defence closer games etc and to be in the mix
We over achieved in some respect last year and things were masked by not that many injuries to major players compared to other clubs and some surprise teams that fell off a cliff like Wahs Broncos and Souths with superior squads
We won’t get that again to the same magnitude next year?
2026 it will be a non negotiable as I expect a slightly better squad again.

Why do we hear diddley squat from players from other clubs after they leave a club. Yet our players leave and start singing like Kylie Minogue. I know a lot of it is bullshit taken out of context by the reporters. However, when the reporters ask the question, these dumb asses should give the standard cliche ...... " Loved my time there, taught me heaps, loved playing for a proud club, still got heaps of mates, yada, yada, yada......"
End of the day Lomax is a flog that’s why. And contrary to what he said- I heard he didn’t take moving to the wing all that well and acted like a right pork chop.

Yep I am very worried about the front row. Was literally the weakest link in our team last season and it's going to be exactly the same.
Recruitment has been good otherwise but you could put a representative backline behind our front row and it would still struggle.
Unless a miracle happens and Lawrie becomes first grade standard (unlikely) or a young gun steps up and really claims a spot, we're going to struggle for field position and domination of the ruck.

Without writing an essay... certainly I am judgmental. It is part of being rational and analytical. And ofc I recognize the persistence of human promiscuity.

I also recognize that communities and societies that do not have stable family life based on trust between men and women as their central organizing principle very quickly become impoverished, failing and crime ridden.

Not really, being judgmental goes beyond "rational and analytical". Judgmental = overly critical. You can write an essay but get your premise right.
I'd like to see some of these communities you're talking about as there are few where men and women share mutual trust, respect and or equality. Not that that has anything to do with promiscuity or people having affairs - that happens in all societies and in the societies where those things attract the harshest penalties - stonings, honour killings, imprisonment, excommunication, even divorce in some cases etc (all usually more heavily skewed against females) religion and religious order take priority, the sanctity of marriage is enforced. Those societies that adhere the strongest to religious moral standards around family and duty also tend to be the most impoverished and violent - parts of the US' South or Afghanistan it's the same. If it weren't for strong laws in the US some sections of the religious landscape over there would be barely distinguishable from the Taliban in their treatment of women.
In progressive cultures around the world religion, marriage and the nuclear family are all becoming less important but I don't see them collapsing into some immoral feral heap.

Personally I won't feel it is necessarily a failure if we are anywhere other the top 8.

Simply because we have a halves combination that has potential and a lot of blue sky but which has no proven history and which also has the potential to just be solid.

Further as acknowledged by Flano we are one forward short, we really need a big bopper.

For me success or failure is measured by the following:

i) Being in the running for the top 8
ii) We deliver solid and consistent defence across the season
iii) Being a team that puts in for 80 minutes
iv) Being a team that is consistently hard to beat at home
v) Being a team where our players put in for each other and if we lose its because we just were not good enough not because the majority of our team did not turn up.
vi) We play strongly against the Sharks at home and if we don't win, no Dragons player should walk off field having given anything other than their best. Losing tot he Sharks at home should hurt and players should step up in that game. Same thing for ANZAC day game. Each player should circle ANZAC day and Sharks at home as games they want to give their absolute best for. If our team gives it all and plays with skill and passion and loses, that is alright that is sport. But for last couple of seasons the team has not always turned up ready to play in these games.
vii) The team shows progress across the season
viii) Players are disciplined. Minimise stupid penalties, minimise send offs and kick on the last tackle

Bonus points if we beat Souths and remind Wayne he made a mistake leaving us :)

Realistically there are 4 or 5 teams challenging on paper for 7th and 8th position and with a less glamourous halves combination we may end up winning games closely and therefore we could be in the position where our for and against may not be as strong as teams who have a more glamorous halves combination.

I agree we were one player off an outstanding off season of new additions IMO - AFB. I think RCG would have been a good get as a 2nd prize but didnt happen as Flanno wouldnt budge on a 2yr contract. Another will come along.

We are not Penrith and a few years behind them in the cycle of rebuilding the club. Flanno inherited a shit show and is well underway to making us successful again. The Nepotistic appointments and the jobs for the boys appointments wasted more than a decade.
St George has not understood the importance of the Illawarra district to the Club as a juniors feeder district. Instead of inviting them to join as a partner at NRL level, we should have invited Illawarra to join as a feeder district.

In the same way Penrith has done, we should have taken ownership of junior clubs in the Illawarra and invested in their development.

Our BOD has failed members and fans with their lack of interest in the club's future development.
