It’s a great interview. He’s got a new club, no hard feelings about the dragons, and a cheeky dig to flanno, which was just banter. He’s having a joke and looking forward to the season.
Yes I realise he was having a joke and that is why I said "I know a lot of it is bullshit taken out of context by the reporters". However, Hunt, Lomax and now Bird departed from the cliche answers given by players leaving their previous clubs. This then gives reporters licence to twist their words to suit a narrative. The main words to come out of the story from the JOKE were "they didn't want me" and "revenge". All moves towards a negative slant towards the Dragons. It was extremely obvious that Bird was having fun with Flanno.

I disagree that not making the 8 is a failure
It will be disappointing but until our front row and go forward has improved I can not see us making the 8, similar to last year finish 10-11th
We have improved in the backs but halves combo will take a few weeks of NRL real games to click
What I do expect is better defence closer games etc and to be in the mix
We over achieved in some respect last year and things were masked by not that many injuries to major players compared to other clubs and some surprise teams that fell off a cliff like Wahs Broncos and Souths with superior squads
We won’t get that again to the same magnitude next year?
2026 it will be a non negotiable as I expect a slightly better squad again.
ok well let’s just tune in in 2026
No point watching next year

Bennett really does believe he's Jesus!

I bet I live to regret that statement!
Probably Bennett's last chance to win a comp and relying on guys like Latrell, Bateman, Lodge and Walker, he may feel like he is Jesus and going to produce a miracle. I suppose if anyone can achieve this he can.

Bennett's last comp he won was in 2010 and we keep getting reminded how the Saints BOD screwed up because they did not sign him longer than 3 years. He may be the one who screwed up in the end because if he asked for more he Saints would have wanted him to stay longer and he may have won another comp or 2. They did come close to getting him back only for him to go to Souths last minute so Saints did at least try to get him back, he in the end turned them down.

I think with Bennett not coming back to the Dragons was a case of he had won us a premiership and now he is trying to win another premiership with another club which he failed to achieve in 14 years - he did go back to the Broncos for a bit but couldn't win one for them (Bhunt, with butter fingers in the 2015 grand final) and in 2021 beaten by Penrith in the grand final in his last year as head coach of the Bunnies.

Can he get the Bunnies into the grand final again in his next 3 years of coaching them? As some people have said, he can produce miracles and I'm thinking that 2026 is a very likely year of him finally getting a premiership for South Sydney.
