Just checking the charges out, it’s been reported that Qld police declined to lay more serious charges on him which might have brought a stint in Gaol as an ( unlikely) option or a better chance of conviction. They had their reasons, I’d love to know what they were.

The kids injury didn’t matter it seems as he wasn’t charged for an dangerous driving injury type offence.

But failing to even get convicted?

The QLD Police Commissioner needs to explain.

The mam defence is now the state of law in qld.

I’m buying a new car next year, you’d have to argue with me to buy a kia, but now I wouldn’t buy one in a pink and maroon fit.

I know it's Christmas and the journos and media people deserve to have a break and spend time with family and friends over this festive season. When they come back I just wonder if these guys will be bringing up Mam in their stories or will they just keep "mum" and not bring it up as part of protecting this "upstanding" rugby league player.

I suppose his answer is that he’s not disqualified and just didn’t renew - as for drugs maybe the levels were so low that it couldn’t have effected his driving at the time. But I’m guessing here.

But if he had left the car alone and walked, ( as he was supposed to be doing) and obeying the law, the event wouldn’t have happened.

And drugs, well I’ve met a few people, their brains are now fried even if they’ve given up.

The terror for the Uber and the family gets me.

I think the commissioner should hold a press conference and explain what they did and why the terror and injuries couldn’t be used in a charge.

The government should insist on it.

People are calling it an “ accident” I say bullshit to that.

It was at all material times entirely preventable and reasonably foreseeable that the b.hunt could have maimed and killed someone.

And as you suggest, some kind of official freak off session to make sure hes Ok.

That’s a sad loss to the game and relationships built up over time, but your neighbours stand for something and I’d be happy if they moved next door to me.

If Ezra was truly remorseful, the hunt should devote the rest of his career to the kid and family and give them a whopping chunk of his salary or something.

But we all know how 99% of these bums roll. They like to say stuff but hesitate to actually do anything.

Worked on a building site for a couple of weeks. What an unusually cruel punishment that was ….on his $20k a week. Im surprised the United Nations Human Rights folk didn’t intervene.

And I think the Broncos are hoping it will all blow over. They should ring the panthers and ask them how that insightful strategy went with May.

I agree. When the Broncos cannot come up with a plausible and thoroughly acceptable explanation, they will ignore these things and not respond to emails, letters etc. They decided that they wouldn't sack him ages before the NRL served the breach notice and then banned him for 9 weeks. The Broncos has the muscle to get their way if they want to keep a marquee player. Anyone else and maybe, goneski.

I still think it’s more a chain of events of poor decision making rather than any grand conspiracy.

It’s simply not worth anyones time or money to risk compromising themselves.

Abdo and co are on big money running the game, they aren’t going to chuck that all away for the Broncos or be beholden to anyone who could call them out.

It would be good to know the actual rationale for the 9 games, why such leniency?

Should we have a rule that if you earn over x amount and get suspended, half your salary during the suspension goes to charity or something?

I have read that somewhere, but can’t confirm or deny it.

In NSW, multiple counts of driving whilst suspended seems to be extremely serious:

The idea is to try to hold people to some kind of basic standard.

I think people who don’t want to be part of the regime, they are not really thinking of their fellow person.

I would change the fine regime and points system to make it fairer. But meaningful accountability is critical to change behaviours and save lives etc.

I accept that some people simply shouldn’t be driving. Too careless, ignorant, infirm or selfish etc. Too dangerous.

I just don’t know why Mam didn’t stop to think that even if he didn’t like the rules, the license regime is really important for everyone.

I’m not the worlds best or worst driver either. Just an average Joe in his car.

A bit quiet on the SGI club front atm.

But Its a good time for SGI enthusiasts like us to try to learn about their blue chip juniors people were whispering about last season. A couple of names crop up, but I don’t know them as well as I might.

And the Sloane issue. He’s about to take the candy of gun, then he pulls his hand back, then he reaches out again. Let’s hope he gets and stays in the zone. When he’s genuinely on, we all know he can decimate marquee reputations. He’s an X factor player in waiting. Please Sloaney, fire up son!

And flanno recently confirmed what we all knew, that he turned Lomax into marquee by forcing him out on the wing.

The best thing about January SGI is that Flanno starts to give snippets of his longer term thinking. So listen out for interviews. You can honestly take them to heart instead of when he is in the cut and thrust of the season. He’s in honest contemplation mode now, so plenty of good oil for us. Radio interviews are his best.

And just like us, they are wondering about Ezra. No one hates him personally, just think he needs a lot of work to get into the mix. Everyone is disappointed with the powers.

I don't believe it's up to the NRL to come down extra hard on Mam because the legal system was disgracefully lenient towards Mam. Imagine if it was a Saints player getting 9 weeks when the court only fined him $850.
I would have liked to see Mam do 6 months in gaol.

Perhaps it would be wise for the NRL to be non-reactive in the face of any legal issues that players might face but that horse bolted long ago when - for example - they stuck their oar into the JDB matter.

The issue here is not a matter of what the policy should be but of an out-of-control and favoritism. Again, Todd Carney had his contract cancelled and was barred forever from the NRL for nothing more serious than a harmless juvenile prank. Ezra Mam, well, the list of his criminal actions is so long I won't bother listing them but I am sure you see my point.

Bad timing for Mam in many ways, people in league on a holiday so not much churn of footy news and events…so his story hangs about for longer.

If I was managing Mam, I’d be doing my utmost to keep him out of the footy fan consciousness.

In all fairness to him, this year is going to be very difficult for him socially in the nrl. A year or two in ESL and some good deeds might be a better option.

He’s going to have to get used to weekly taunts, jeers and relentless disrespect.

I wouldn’t put it past the Broncos fans to voice their disapproval either.

The nrl bro lifestyle, it’s so stale.

Being a bro is young DCE funding and building schools for villagers in the middle of the jungle in a distant land during his extremely limited off season.

Maybe Mam could spend a year away on a similar project. Unpaid.

Do him the world of good in many ways, help him come back with some kind of goodwill behind him. Remediate and revive.

If he’s just wanting money, it will come at a very high price.

I don’t think he should seek Hunts guidance on the issue, or take it …and do the exact opposite!!
