Unfortunately yes I do.

I found the Packer signing difficult to support and to my mind, this is considerably worse. I cheer for the club but I can't divorce that completely from the people that make up the club.
If he fails, we probably do as well as the alpha prop role is significant and heavily linked to success/failure. Forwards win games, backs decide by how much.

That's a very interesting and personal perspective HoD. Thank you for sharing.

The thing I struggle with though is his lack of accountability. As per https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...s/news-story/052d5a817a9b95f3bcec52fd4e06bf3f he tries to play the victim card - implying strongly that the $1.2M payout was a cash-grab.

As a parent, I would imagine I'd lose a lot of money in time off work to support my child had we been through such a situation as the victims here were. Additionally, I'd expect that the costs of ongoing counselling would be significant and very probably long-term. Finally, I would be inclined to move house as well in an attempt to start anew. $1.2M wouldn't go very far in these circumstances and that's to say nothing of the damage to my wife or to myself.

So for Lodge to cry woe-is-me is pretty rich - especially when considering he received a particularly lenient initial sentence due no doubt to his ability to finance a strong defence.

And there's also a massive difference to a drink being spiked and someone voluntarily taking more than double the recommended dose of a prescription medication.

Personally I have no sympathy for Lodge and hope he's belted into oblivion if he ever dons the jersey.
That’s pretty much how I felt when I first heard about the charges against him.

Of course, we empathise with the victims but I have since also thought about Lodge and his family. What if my son did something stupid with his mates without understanding the potential consequences? What if he were your son?

The stain follows Lodge everywhere even though he has not been in any other trouble. Then there’s the 1.2 mil which is not peanuts.

It’s been 10 years

Quote from Thomas Szasz a famous Hungarian-American academic and psychiatrist

"The stupid neither forgive nor forget; the naive forgive and forget; the wise forgive but do not forget."

I hope Lodge has a blinder of a season

Are you questioning Bennett’s brilliance as a coach?
Surely not, he’s the GOAT IMO, an unbelievable coach, just look at the Dolphins enterance into the comp, sure they fell away but that side had no right to be anywhere near the top 8.
And what he did with dragons showed clearly how good a coach he is.
What makes you draw that conclusion?

The discussion was about him having poor squads and taking them to greater heights and I questioned how many times he has actually had poor squads and actually done that.

Coaches like Bennett rarely have poor squads due to their drawing power nor do they go looking for a poor squad to show how they can elevate them just on coaching ability alone.

Brown had done an immense amount of work prior to Bennett and had a win ratio of > 50% with kids and bits and pieces but alas Brown didn’t have the pulling power of Bennett to draw in the senior players needed to compliment what Brown had created.

The Dolphins 1st year whilst not full of great players certainly wasn’t exactly a poor or complete rookie squad.

1st year very good and no doubt some Adrenalin and local support and hatred of Broncos helped but couldn’t emulate it in the 2nd year.

I’m saddened that he’s taken on Souths as I believe his best days are well behind him and that the big ego’s @ Souths will actually tarnish his career.

What makes you think anyone is questioning his credentials?

Not sure if that's meant to be sarcastic but it did give me a good chuckle...

Someone's credentials are their previous achievements...

With every second post of yours about Bennett, you babble on about how we should have won more premierships with him at the helm. With those posts, you are directly questioning his achievements, so therefore you are questioning his credentials.

Have a good day...

I’m simply saying that he is not the infallible messiah some people think he is.

If you think that in his long career he doesn’t have some abject fails or that they shouldn’t be mentioned then you are not being honest in your appraisal of his results.

To mention them is not questioning his credentials it is merely highlighting he’s human.

As I said his best is well behind him and of course he has almost exclusively left everywhere in a mess after leaving.

Bellamy continues to amaze me and I believe his ability to polish uncut stones into gems is 2nd to none.

Coaches like Sticky, Kevvie, Madge, Gonzo, Fittler, Arthurs, probably Dessie as well are all from a bygone era with all the blokey, macho stuff and I fear that S F might also fall into that category hopefully I’m wrong.

Over the next few years I believe the astute young coaches will bring a new era to how the game is played and coached.
