The more I think about this, the more it stinks.
If he’d wanted to be closer to home then Panthers or Parra would’ve been better for him. Plus the fact that his family moved him to the gong for his development tells me at this stage of his career they wouldn’t be restricting his career options by reducing his club choices. So I don’t think it’s that.
There’s been no talk of fallouts or not liking the town or his teammates or coaches so I don’t think it’s that.
Bulldogs are going ok atm but they are not a Penrith or Melbourne so I don’t think he’s going for glory / silverware.
That really only leaves money. This Laundy idiot was shut down by Gould for bragging about being able to financially help the players, because he’s a club sponsor and so not allowed to give them third party deals. Since then we haven’t heard a peep out of him. We know the money is around 400k a year for 3 years. Flanagan is blowing up because we were promised a right of reply and then not given the option to increase our offer.
Why were we not allowed to make another offer when it was clearly about money? The only thing I can think of is that Gould has found a way around the 3rd party rules, where he’s harnessing the Laundy money to lure players. And presumably because it’s bending the rules the player managers are being told not to allow the players to go back to their clubs for another offer, as that would start too many questions being asked by the club officials.
Can’t be sure, but this absolutely stinks. And it’s being done to poach juniors. Yet another example of a weak NRL association allowing certain people to wrought the system.
