This. Great post. 👍
It does stink. Clearly it's not about football. The Dogs haven't won anything yet, and tbh, are stacked with pretty good pack-up potential players waiting for a chance to show what they've got. Latu would have had more chance with the Dragons than the flogs. He's now just joined a queue at the pound and Gus will soon tire and replace him if they don't win a GF this year. Their rabid fans expect it. The two-bit journo's who joined their band wagon have, and surely Uncle Laundy can't have unlimited funds to accept nothing less than multiple successive GF's via his junior inexperienced coach. Talk about pressure!
It's heartening to see the likes of the Couchman brothers, Egan and LKT (and other juniors) who have bought into the current Dragons mantra. I know who I'm proud to support, even if it is a rocky road.
The guy should have been locked up ages ago so its our fault that we see another good get away. When will we learn to get our house in order.

Ramsey can't play NRL this year due to his contract.
On a podcast i listened to recently he said he just wants to focus on playing every game this year, his playing weight before his illness was 90+kgs & he went down to the 60’s during his illness & is still 10-15kg away from getting back to his playing weight & rebuilding the muscle mass he lost. An amazing effort to get back & he still has to do a lot of things right to be able to train & play, an true inspiration to anyone suffering from an illness to show what a difference a positive attitude, determination & self belief can do. He will get back to FG i am sure but not in 2025.

FACING THE AXE

St George Illawarra coach Shane Flanagan is surely running out of patience with his struggling halfback Lachlan Ilias. Even Ilias’ manager Braith Anasta recently conceded on NRL 360 that the halfback needed to lift to save his spot in the team. Expect a change for the Wests Tigers game next weekend. Flanagan’s replacement options are Lyhkan King-Togia or Jonah Glover, two highly regarded NSW Cup halves.

There are definitely options available which you rightly point out. Something tells me Flanno didnt have a great weekend !

I think dropping Ilias is risky. What do we have to replace him with? Unproven juniors. Finau for example has been consistently targeted on the wing and its obvious the kid isn’t ready yet. Not a great idea to bring in LKT or Glover too early.

cant we just recruit a gun kick coach and give Ilias an intense crash course ?

Absolutely on the last sentence of your comment. Pre-season high hopes and a creditable performance against the Dogs followed by the Bunnies followed by Melbourne followed by the Eels, followed by Manly followed by the Anzac Day disaster. But in it for the long haul. Red V forever.

I think this is kinda poor form from Flanno. Ilias has been shit, but he can kick long. Who else in the team can kick long? Long kicking is one of, if not our biggest problem. And you know who CAN'T kick long to save their life? Kyle. Kyle, on numerous occasions, has passed to somebody on the last because he can't put a kick in. And on the few occasions I saw him kick long last year, it was like a pop gun.

The reason I say that I make a point of this is because the most likely option is that LKT comes in for Ilias. Kyle goes to halfback, LKT 5/8. But that makes no sense because LKT isn't even the designated 'long-kicker' in KOE. Glover is (not to say that LKT can't - I just haven't seen him try and do it). So if anything, that long kicking presumably just becomes worse.

I think a halves pairing of LKT and Ilias makes more sense.

It was exactly this game two years ago that Hook dropped Lomax back to NSW Cup and he came back later and finished the season on fire...then went onto bigger and better things and Origin with Flanagan as coach.

Ilias should be dropped. He can go and work on his game elsewhere until he finds the form which I am yet to witness from him in a red and white or bunnies jersey.

Lynkan is best choice to come in, otherwise bring Lawson in, Sloan to fullback, Gutho to 6 and Kyle to 7...we have options to try.

It’s not going to matter who the halves are if the forwards continue to struggle to get us into the opposition half.
Yes, those young roosters halves looked like world beaters, their kicking game was way better than ours. But that’s only because their forwards gave them the space. A lot of their attacking kicks were from on our side of halfway
Ilias on the other hand was often kicking from deep in our own half.

Exactly. Look at Cleary with a forward pack that isn’t as dominant this year. It’s a team sport like no other. Individual talent is great but the whole team needs to work to win games. Otherwise it’s just lipstick on a pig.
