They are saying Smith will be the one to make way when DCE arrives.. think they are backing Walker + Hugo (or Rodwell) as their longterm halves partnership now.

I know Smith tore us apart, but im not sure hes the sort of guy we would go all in on.. is he a 6 or a 7 also? Cause we have two 6's in Atkinson & LKT.. we really could only be interested in a 7 with a big boot.. Hugo might be perfect but I think the Rorters have him locked in.

If Saints want to be a serious threat next season, bring in Cobbo and play him fullback. Gutho can go in the centres to replace Suli, or Sloan on the wing and come in and out of the game. Sandon Smith is the other. Cobbo, Finau, Gutho, Holmes, Lawson, Atkinson and Smith (Illias, Flanno, Fegai, Buchanan can be solid back ups). That is a pretty good back 1-7. If the 5 youngsters continue to play strong or take off on their debuts this year in the forwards - Egan, Stewart, Tonga, Couchy, Halangahue, Lui and Tsougranis then the Saints will be fine. They can start rolling off the old guys when their contracts are up as they are proving to be hot when they choose but mostly cold and have shown no consistency to not only last a full season but now can't last a game.

Appreciate the thoughts slippery, but cobbo feels like a guy who will be hot and cold his entire career, and a guy I can’t see moving long term to Sydney.

and wrt the 7 jumper, there seems no obvious choice. We have choices at 6, but 7? Can Atkinson become a 7, LKT? or do we need to go to market. You suggested Sandon Smith, but isn’t he another 6?
controlling the team, and kicking. That’s what needs to be solved!

I have to agree to the above , don’t think cobbo is the answer though not sure what we have behind gutho is either. BESIDES a fit Ramsey.
Personally don’t think Finau will be re signed nor do I see us getting any of the roosters halves even if it’s for a loan deal. They’ll have the weight on their shoulders. I’m sure the club are eagerly waiting for Kade Reed/Lykan & Atkinson to be our future halves.
I do see us losing another edge junior. As we can’t fit them all in.
Would think Egan has an edge locked up for life while Halangahue, and Tsougranis fight out for the other .
BUT the future looks bright!!

Cobbo might thrive with a change of scenery and getting out of his comfort zone. Would sign him in a heart beat. Our halves situation is a confusing one but I'm sure Flanno or whoever is coaching next year will figure it out

Cobbo and Young are interesting.. one of the journos said we had spoken to Young.. the advantage of Cobbo though is he covers fullback and ctr properly.. but hes probably double the price too.. would give us good gutho cover though, there is noone else coming through apart from Ollie in U17s, so a fullback who is ready to go could be priceless.

Young is an out and out winger.. and not a sure thing either.. but still a big step up from CT or Lawson (currently).

Thought Young would go back to Newcastle if they wanted him however, after last night given the right terms it might not be a lock in.

Given the need to spend big on the front row, do we or can we afford to spend big on the wing.

Tonight Gutho made several mistakes that weree very costly. not a good example for the troops.

Holms missed 2 goals and a field goal any one of which would have won us hte game.

Sloan did absolutetly nothing.

Our halves, who cannot kick field goals were well below standart.

Suli needs to be moved to an edge forward spot and Leilu needs to be slected as a bench prop playing short minutes.

Cook should nrver be selected in first grade again.

Tonight we lost due to a commedy of errors made by players playing below first-grade standard. Flanno needs to make the hard decisions.

We need to buy a halfbck - DCE or Sanden Smith.

We also need to recruit two first-grade props.

in 2026, Ramsey to fullback Gutherson to center, Lawson and CT as our wingers.
