Nothing major has happened for weeks & we are currently transitioning from our current CEO.
What's happening now is no different to how we've approached recruitment for the last 14 years or so, the new CEO's pending arrival has nothing to do with it.

As big redv has pointed out, we're a professional sports club, but for many years you'd think we're the Sunday A Grade side that plays at the leagues club, that's how poorly it is run.

I posted yesterday that the average age of recruit since Flanagan got here is 28 years old, his recruitment strategy is consistent with that of coaches past, which is signing players on their last legs looking for a final contract, with absolutely no proactivity in the market, just sitting around and waiting for the cards to fall.

It is rubbish and we as fans deserve a whole lot better.

We show no urgency from the top down.

Wait around until the CEO is done with more important business elsewhere.
Low ball or 'um' and 'ah' over players we need to recruit.
Even on the field, we don't take our chances.......this is culture and it starts with the hopeless board.

Then you have the clubs that want to win. Best example now Bulldogs....Crichton, Kikau, Xerri etc grab grab grab, Latu from Dragons, take him, Galvin...take him...

There is obviously a shortage of proven coaches available and options are limited.

The best coaches look for long engagements at proven clubs so that reduces the candidates even further.

Notwithstanding that, that doesn't mean we should accept mediocrity and reward it with an extension because we are frightened of the unknown aka as Ryles factor.

If SF can't get the job done, then whoever is the next best credentialed & available option, is the one we should employ.

Not all players fit into a club regardless of how good the player or the club is nor do coaches sometimes it just doesn't gel.

The problem is not at the CEO level, it is at the GM Football level. Delegatioln of recruitment spending should be at the GM Football level with the condition that decisions should be made provided;
They do not compromise salary cap rules,
They do not compromise long term budgets
They do not exceed a spending limit.

Flannagan needs to be given a fair opportunity to succeed. This means:
The recruitment of a good recruitment manager and staff.
The consideration of buying marquee players where necessary.
The recruitment of a good defensive coach who is not a future candidate for head coach.

Yeah i agree but the GM should report to the CEO therefore the new CEO needs to make change & put the right people in those positions.

https://www.nrl.com/news/2024/12/04/flanagan-young-on-track-to-head-coaching-role/ Flanagan sure loves him some Deano. This was before the season, Flanno wanted Young here and says he is a good coach so all you naysayers who whinge about some of us having an agenda for Young (I've never said he should be our next coach) give yourself and Flanno an uppercut.
I'd say that the BOD hired Flannagan on the condition that Young be an assistant coach. The same deal was made to Ryles, but he resisted the opportunity.

Backroom deals have been the undoing of the Dragons since 2011.

Ryles was all but signed wasn't he? I heard it was the contract amount that was the problem and they agreed to a figure but when he came to sign the deal it was less? Young already had a job up north, Flanno wanted Young to join his staff he speaks highly of him.

The Doust/Craig Young faction always wanted Dean to come back to the Dragaons and then get the head coach job at a later date. The same two men were accused of not keeping their word on contract value in past years.

I'm not a fan of Young being our next head coach that's for sure. Who knows Flanno and co could turn us around but I just can't see it happening anytime soon..
