The Rumours Thread

Why didn't our coach sign Galvin or Fogarty and some decent forwards when they were offered?
He has now had long enough to improve our squad.
When our season is mathematically gone the bells will ring out.
Kyles should not see first grade again this year.
Were we ever "offered" Galvin?

I doubt we were ever "offered" Fogarty either

''Offered'' - To to accept or reject as desired

C'mon, really?

Both have signed elsewhere.
They were free to sign wherever.
Do we need to wait to be asked?

This is the problem. Some fans have a weak, undeserving mentality like many running the club. We have become so used to losing that we don't even think it is possible to get the right players to the club. The Dragons need to go after their targets with certainty and prepared to part with the coin, TPAs in place etc.
We miss out constantly, cover it up with unwanted off cuts, and then people want to excuse the coach and club for having a poor roster when we play poorly, because we must be 'realistic'.

What's most likely to happen in the next 2-3 years?

We retain our juniors, they become regular first graders. We sign the big name gun prop, winger and halfback we need and become a rampant force in the comp?

Or

We linger around the bottom of the comp, switching out ok players to the team to creep into finals, miss those finals again and the coach gets cut?

We all know the answer. We might hope for more but we know how it plays out.

Have to change the mentality and MAKE what we deserve happen. It's not that difficult if you have the will.

The movement of players between clubs takes in so many factors. There is money considerations. There is TPA considerations. There is previous relationships with players, coaches, officials at new club...Eg, Taylan May will probably sign with the Tigers because his brother is already there. Terrell went There originally because Luia, Turuva, Appi, etc were there from his time at the Panthers. There are location considerations. There are premiership aspirations considerations. There are endless reasons. Which one of these would mean that Luia and Fogarty would come to us

There's a great coach.
There's lots of money.
There's a need.
There's a plan for success that you can sell them.

Or there's excuses.

Not everything is one's control but some things are.

Are the things I mentioned Facts? Definitely.
Are they excuses? Maybe/probably
What all these factors definitely provide is a more difficult road to success. Do I want our players to overcome hurdles to succeed. I'd rather they didn't have to but a shit roster, multiple injuries, etc usually cruel your chances of success. In 2011 we were a better team than 2010, but, a rigorous State of Origin period where most of our rep players returned from Origin busted killed our season. Was the Origin period a reasonable excuse for our fade out? Fxcking oath it was. Was the Origin period fade out a FACT? Fxcking oath it was.

The strength of the excuse is what makes it plausible or not. The "excuses" are pretty real and strong excuses.

Your right he will sign marquee players but it will be because he can actually put a BALANCED roster together and players will want to play under a legend of the club, this is not happening now.
He has the approval of Bennett and is the only current coach in our club who is part of the representative coaching team
Steve Price had the approval of Bennett as well and we know how that turned out. Bennett is not a good judge of future coaches.

I never thought I’d say this BUT
do we have a great coach?
Des got his team up after a flogging whilst we rose and fell in the second half

Yes he was then let me remind you what happened next in case you missed it,Flano took over for the final instructions and we all saw the results
This happened last time Deano talked to them at half time
can’t remember the game but definitely turned to poo after he talked to us
- it was last year.
he obviously doesn’t have the people skills

I reckon the Dragons will be dead in 20 years, maybe sooner.
The games moving on in a fast fashion. New clubs in, some will have to go.

Our history has been wiped.
Our jersey cheapened by a cavalcade of awful and selfish players over the last decade.
Can't secure a decent coach.
Most of our best juniors play elsewhere.
Look how dead our rivalries our.
Look how we wet our pants on special occasion matches.

And before you think, they won't do it, get rid of St George.
We are not St George anymore but also, look what happened to Souths and Norths and Wests.
Why would this be any different?

And if it doesn't happen, a permanent move to Illawarra will be the other option.

This is not a response to another loss. this is just what I see V'landys working towardsw.
Probably right sadly

The problems are bigger than the coach. No coach outside a Bellamy or Bennett could attract the top quality players to our mess at the moment. This idea that Shane should just be able to sign anyone available is not realistic. We don’t have the TPAs, the board has to sign off on everything etc

We need a good enough coach to dig us slowly out of the hole we are in, as nothing seems to change at the top. That’s the reason Ryles pulled out, he wasn’t up for the fight with the constraints in place.

The best coaches aren’t going to be up for it either. These rookie coaches are going to be a huge gamble to be able to do it. I still have some faith that Flanno can though, it’s just going to take some time and incremental improvements. Hopefully the club can see that and not put in Deano if it doesn’t come quick enough, cause that is going to turn into a disaster real quick and then drag on for way too long ala the peanut.

Let’s see how this year plays out. We need to improve on last year. Only coaching will get us into the top 8, as we are a bottom 4 squad talent wise and our available halves are the worst in the comp.
