This club does my absolute head in. Here’s a young kid who was told he’d never play footy again, who proved everyone wrong and came back and played very well. He may not play FG, but wouldn’t you want someone like this at your club? The kid has more heart than the majority of the first grade squad. It’s hard to be a dragons supporter.

I’m sure they’d love him to stay hence their train & trial offer but he’s after security & who can blame him.
As you say he may not be able to play NRL again & if so why would you waste a top 30 spot which we’re not in a position to do so with our roster.
I’m sure we all wish him the best either way.

this to me feels like we lost Lance Thompson again
Firstly, I'm a huge Cody fan and wish he could stay with us. But I feel this was a business decision that was not based on sentiment, or the 'chance' for a feel-good redemption story. We already had that in the very day he stepped out for our KOE Cup squad this year and the way he, not only played, but carried himself throughout the year.

However, do the positives out way the negatives here! That's the decision. Take out the emotion and ask simply, could Cody complete a full year of 1st Grade, playing wing/fullback, engaging in all the rigors associated with playing at that level. That's what it means to be in the top 30, not just play a game here or there. Offering a T&T or any other type of lower-level type deal was insurance for us. Not saying that its right but its fact.

Will Cody play wing or any other position consistently for the Roosters? My guess is no. But it is more $$ and whatever Uncle Nick throws in, which would equal security for his family and given Cody will be 26 at the start of next season, the opportunity to make some cash is a priority, just not at the Dragons.

If you read between the lines, it's why we've been linked to a few backs including Fale and Sami.

Also, as someone already mentioned, the Dragons are basically all in on Burton (Ollie) who is being mooted as a superstar and our long-term fullback, but he's a few years off yet.

Anyway, good luck to Cody, I've enjoyed every minute of you being a Dragon. I hope you can secure a good and decent future for yourself and your family.
Great post. I’m no expert. But if the roosters saw something in him, and they rarely sign dud players (except for Townsend) then why can’t we see the same thing in Cody? Like I said before, the kid is an inspiration. Wouldn’t you want someone like that at your club?

I don’t blame him. I wish him nothing but the best. If the roosters can see something in him, why can't we? The bloke is all heart. He’d teach a lot of our plodders a thing or two

Why? he was made an offer he rejected it after all the club has done for him. We cant make this about ourselves & what we want he got a better offer he put himself and family first good luck to him.
I don't blame him for accepting the deal at Easts. However a top 30 deal could've been made

Easy enough to say but we can't shift Sloan anywhere unfortunately & we are deep in talks with Sami who is an upgrade on every single winger in our club when players like him come available you have to sacrifice someone.

Will be interesting to see what happens in the next few weeks as signings go. Sami as you said and I expect Quinn and Chevy should be done deals

I need to see what our Top 30 looks like in months to come.. I'm all for buying someone we think is more likely to be a longterm first grade fullback than Cody (and if anyone would know Cody's chances... its us)... and if we do indeed buy an upgrade then who knows... and im sure we will tbh... because right now there is noone in our system who plays #1, Ollie is years away from a discussion about NSW Cup.

Cody might provide injury cover for Teddy.. hes a very similar player.. couldnt see him as a first string option though.. must be a few dissapointed young fullbacks in the roosters system.

I also thought we were chasing a proper first grade #1 also... granted probably for 2027... 2 different players we need.

Sami & Quinn from what i am lead to believe are done, Chevy i am not sure on but if recent reports are accurate its not a matter of if but when realistically there are no clubs he could end up unless he sticks it out in Canberra then opts for Perth in 2027, with Ramsey signing with the Roosters you would think they are out of the race as i thought they may have been a club interested.

An announcement would likely be delayed until his court case is settled in November.

Surely Quinn is not top 30 because if he is we are more stupid than I thought.
He is a NSW cup player nothing more.

That doesn't concern the Roosters?
The Roosters salary cap ELASTICITY means they can gamble on Cody. We don't have that luxury. Also, I'm sure Uncle Nick has called in a favour with some business to provide TPA for Cody that wont count on their salary cap. We also don't seem to have this luxury. He would be on a minimum contract, TOPPED up with a TPA. As frustrating as this is for us Saints fans, I'm glad for Codey as he gets to earn more for his family. Saints CANNOT compete with the Roosters in what a player can earn. Saints have looked after Cody and have done nothing wrong. Cody has done nothing wrong. The NRL are at fault as they refuse to fix a SHIT system that allows 4 or 5 teams to trade in GOLD while the other 12 clubs trade in ALUMINIUM. Until they FxCK off the TPAs, nothing will change. Storm, Roosters, Bulldogs, Broncos, etc will continue to sit top 4.
