I beg to differ, they went Trump marketing from the get go, and just mis-read the room and backed the wrong horse.

Anyway, you're welcome to continue the conversation in the appropriate thread - freeing up Avenger's Shit List thread for... shit?

They could do worse.. though I don't think the Libs would ever agree.

They are in such disarray the Libs might end up splintering... one faction which is hard right (the current rump left standing - almost holding hands with One Nation), and a new, more moderate conservative group starting from scratch to rise from the ashes?

It's the more moderate / centrist group - which doesn't exist yet, because the Libs systematically gotten rid of almost all of their moderates over the past 10 years - that is their only hope of a future, challenging and appealing to people to change their vote to something slightly to the right of Teals and Labor.
Yeah but like, the teals are what you are talking about

You could have gotten great odds on that, back in early January when he was riding high, before... his mini-Trump sway.

The Penrith candidate did ok despite Abbott and is one of only 5 remaining LNP MPs in Sydney. Perhaps Abbott helped the cause... remembered more fondly as their leader than Dutton will be?

I will go back to when they even have Dutton the leadership and say he wasn't going to win.

He was never a chance and went even backwards with how his campaign was run.

its odd because in the States liberals are lefties
There in lies the rub Twiz. The party was conservative in terms of family values but liberal in relation to progress in most of its forms. Now it’s just a cluster of right and extreme right ideology.
I voted for the Libs right up until 2022 when I changed to Labor as I believe that the party lost its moderate voices such as Frydenberg and Sharma.
you win Australia by being either just left of centre or just right of centre. You don’t win with ideologies such as the Greens who have no little or no policy, or the basket cases of hate and fear like that fat f**ker Palmer, Pauline and dare I say it, now the Libs with Trump lite shit

Very true, the right faction/s in the Libs won internal power, and took them down the path with the results we see today. No longer "liberal" by any means, the rump that's left should change their name to Conservative (to mirror their colleagues in the UK) and be done with it.

Very true also. And slow and steady as well - meaning Albo has played a good longer term strategy for the nation as well.

No they were campaigning on the same platform; nationalism and economic rationalism. Of course it's going to resemble the Trump campaign. They will need to campaign on it next time too.

The problem is Australian voters are fixated on events in the US and believe the alarmist reporting coming out of the media (America sux and it's Trump's fault). They don't want to believe the mining boom is over and we need to tighten our belts. Labor was able to continue promising that it isn't and we don't. Of course voters prefer that story.

That thread is even shitter than this one.

In a forum where merkins constantly derail threads, I'm not taking it to another one. Selective enforcement of rules and standards is bullying.

If there's no more demand for political discussion in this thread it will die. Simple as that. Then you can go back to putting shit on players, coaches, administrators and other users.

Always knew the Hills was like the Shire with no water.

It's not anymore.
The Hills headed towards the red on the weekend in a big way.
I've lived here for 26 years.
Never before has there been any sign of a major swing away from this blue ribbon seat. Until yesterday.
Alex Hawke had an 8% swing against his party this weekend. That's unheard of up here.
The Libs are clearly not on top of their changing demographic in this area.
They'll get what they deserve eventually.
The seat of Mitchell is no longer a white enclave, and that is and has been good for the region. It's called diversity, and our community welcomes it. And voting accordingly.
