The shoulder charge rule

Have those players who want to play with shoulder charges sign a consent form acknowledging the risk of brain damage in later life and absolving the NRL of any liability..

Those said players then wear a yellow arm band and are fair game for each other only..

No armband, can't put on a shoulder charge and can't get one put on you..

We can then separate out the armband wearers from the non-wearers into separate competitions.

To facilitate the split, we will have check points at league grounds to separate out the non-wearers, who will be given a free transfer - by train I suppose - to a pre-season training camps to work on their new comp.

This shall be the final solution to the shoulder charge conundrum

I even have a name for the form! We could call it an "NRL contract"

Its a sad indictment when shoulder charges are now well and truly consigned to the dustbin along with coat hangers, elbows and spear tackles. Sniff.

Still dumb. The problem was never shoulder charges, it was with referees being too weak to properly penalise high contact.

Intentional shoulder charge by the bloke carrying the ball not deemed as illegal high contact no matter how serious the damage to a defender makes a farce of the rule. Why target someone with a shoulder when you don't have the ball when you can use it as a brace when you have it
