STRONG SHARKS LINE UP HEADS SOUTH

The Sharks have named a squad containing 18 players with NRL first grade experience for their trial match against the Canberra Raiders at Mollymook Oval on Saturday, February 21.

While some of the Sharks high profile players including Brett
Kimmorley, David Peachey and Nigel Vagana will be missing
from the line up, coach Stuart Raper has selected a team
overflowing with NRL talent.

Exciting centre Paul Franze has been chosen to take one of the centres spots having
now fully recovered from the serious knee injury that ended his 2003 season prematurely.
The former Newcastle junior is currently in a battle to win the vacant centre position alongside
Nigel Vagana for the season opener on March 13. Ryan McGoldrick, his main rival for the position,
has been rested from the match.

Chris Beattie, a late withdrawal from the Parramatta trial in Ballina due to illness, returns to the paddock for the Raiders trial.

Joining the experienced duo will be boom youngsters Keith Galloway, Reece Williams, Cameron Ciraldo and David Simmons. Sam Isemonger, Michael Sullivan and Pat Gibson are some of the
other experienced NRL stars who will also make an appearance in the game.

The trial match in Mollymook will also represent some sort of homecoming for Shaun Wessell,
the Sharks big front rower. Wessell hails from the south coast region and played his junior
football at the Milton Ulladulla club.

A Jersey Flegg trial will start the proceedings, kicking off at 5pm, while the main game will
begin at 6.30pm.

Admission to the game will be $10 for adults and $4 for pensioners and children.

Along with the trial matches, the entire Sharks squad, including Kimmorley, Peachey,
Nigel Vagana and Jason Stevens will be holding coaching clinics in the area and attending
promotional outings. Arriving Thursday, the Sharks will conduct a clinic at Mollymook Oval at
4pm before meeting and greeting the fans at the Serviceman’s Club at 6pm.

On Friday they will visit schools in the area, the Milton Public School, St Mary’s Catholic School,
the Milton Shoalhaven Anglican School as well as Ulladulla High and Ulladulla Primary. They will
finish their day with a player appearance and dinner at the Marlin Hotel in Ulladulla.

Further public appearances will occur prior to the game before the players take to the Mollymook
golf course on Sunday. After a recovery and fitness session on Monday the Sharks players and
staff will return to Sydney.

Coach Raper, along with Beattie, Jason Kent and Phil Bailey, left a day earlier than their club
mates and travelled further south to Narooma as a part of the NRL’s Qantas Link promotion.
They will join the rest of the squad in Mollymook on Thursday.

For more information on ticketing for Saturday evening’s trial matches, contact the
Milton-Ulladulla football club on (02) 4454 2842.

That looks like a strong team even without our Stars. I wonder who'll Captain?

Also, if anyone is going, keep an eye out on Jardine Bobongie for us. He's supposed to be a GUN player and I'm keen to hear some stuff about him and hear how he goes.

I'm not going to this trial because I'm useless. :D

No Rieck or Merritt - I wonder if that means they've been pencilled in for the wing spots?

Hope so...

Bosnich at no 9 might not be such a bad thing you know. Having watched him run around in the Ballina trial I thought Dean played very well.

I'd love to see Bronx Goodwin play too. You know something, I am actually looking forward to watching our Premier league side play this year too. I usually hung out in the bar until First grade started but now I think I'll be watching the lower grades too. Depth is something we havn't had for a while.

Hi I've just got some info of the raiders forum that the side where playing is there premier league side. One of the young blokes in the Raiders side Jack Pearson is a kid I coached a few years ago in Young. It should be fun to see him have a run against the Sharks.
