You cant expect much from a guy that looks and talks like he is a few chromosomes short, but good luck to him he is now a gf winning captain.

Those speeches we made when we captained our sides to a GF victory were so much better rite gusy!?

yes, mine was actually...

granted it wasn't NRL, but still managed to string together a coherent, rousing speech..

Lyons 2011 speech was the worst ive ever heard...

But its no more than you can expect, these guys got to were they have because they are good at simulating car crashes with their heads and bodies multiple times.

Ive always thought that players should be "seen and not heard" for the most part. id rather they got the coach up to say a bit and just picked their most charismatic speaker instead of just going for the captain ever time.

Nothing wrong with giving it a bit of "yeah bois" but it's good to get the important stuff out of the way first.

It wouldn't be too much effort to spend two minutes early in the week writing down a few important names on a piece of paper, giving it to the trainer/assistant coach/anyone, and saying "if we win give it to me before the speech, if we lose burn the f***er".

But the sports psychologists probably wouldn't have a bar of it, and the players would think it sounds like homework. Footy fans would probably think the first bloke to do it was a show pony, but everyone else would think he was well prepared and showed a bit of class on the game's biggest day of the year.

I didn't mind Hornby's speech in part:
"And to all the fans that came out tonight * to all the true believers**!!"

* = (loud applause)
** = (thunderous applause, screaming, shouting, cheering)"

NRL players aren't known for their eloquence but it was still a terrible speech even by footy standards.

Not that Souths fans would be bothered but it didn't do the moment justice. Looking through that lineup though I doubt anyone could string many more words together than Sutton

McQueen and Dave Tyrrell speak well.
